How to Set Up Missed Call Text Back in Sparkforge
Missed Call Text Back sends an automatic SMS to any caller who doesn't reach you. Enable it in Settings under Phone System, customize the message with merge fields, and save.
Missed Call Text Back fires an automatic SMS the moment a call goes unanswered, so the caller knows you'll be back in touch and has a way to keep the conversation going by text.
What it is
When an inbound call to a Sparkforge number isn't picked up, the system sends a pre-written SMS to the caller's number. The text can include merge fields like the contact's name (when the number matches an existing contact) and the business name.
Where it helps
- After-hours calls when the team is offline
- High call volume periods where some calls inevitably miss
- Field-service teams that can't always reach a phone
- Any business where a fast first response wins the lead
How to configure it
Step 1: Open Settings
In your sub-account, click Settings in the bottom-left corner.
Step 2: Navigate to Missed Call Text Back
- In the left menu, click Phone System.
- In the top nav, click Voice.
- Open Voicemail & Missed Call Text Back.
- In the side panel, click Missed Call Text Back.
Step 3: Enable the feature
Check the box for Enable Missed Call Text Back. Click Customize to write the message.
Step 4: Customize the message
Type the SMS body in the message field. Use the custom value icon to insert dynamic fields like the contact's first name. Merge fields only resolve if the system already has the caller as a contact — first-time unknown numbers won't get a personalized greeting.
Step 5: Send a test
Use the test field below the editor to send the message to a number of your choice. Confirm it looks right, then click Save.
Voicemail settings
The voicemail panel controls what happens when a call isn't answered.
Incoming call timeout
Set how long the phone rings before the missed call text back fires and voicemail picks up. 10–20 seconds works for most businesses.
Custom voicemail audio
Upload an MP3 or WAV to replace the default voicemail greeting.
One thing to watch
The text fires on every missed call by default. If a caller redials a few times in a row, they get a text per attempt. To dedupe, build a workflow that adds a wait step (20+ minutes) or branches on tags like 1st call and 2nd call instead of relying on the raw setting.
