Company Object Automation in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge can auto-create company records from the Business Name field on every contact, then associate the contact to the company. Field matching is exact except for case.

Company Object Automation in Sparkforge creates company records from the Business Name field on each contact and associates the contact to that company. Use it to roll up contacts under their employer without building companies by hand.

How to enable

  1. Open sub-account Settings → Objects → Company.
  2. Check Automatically Create and Associate Companies from Contact Business Names.
  3. Click Save Changes and confirm.

Every contact with a populated Business Name field gets matched to an existing company with that name, or a new company is created if none exists. New contacts sync automatically going forward.

What gets mapped

If these fields are filled out on the contact, Sparkforge copies them onto the company record:

  • Street address
  • City
  • State
  • Country
  • Postal code
  • Website

How matching works

Business Name is the unique identifier. The match rules:

  • Case insensitive: "Burger King" and "burger king" match into one company.
  • Spacing matters: "BurgerKing" and "burger king" create two separate companies.
  • Spelling matters: "Ice Cream Sunday" and "Ice Cream Sundae" stay separate. Even one different letter splits the record.

Different scenarios

Unique business name on a single contact

A new company is created with that name. The contact is associated to it.

Same business name on multiple contacts, same details

One company is created. All contacts associate to it.

Same business name, different contact-level details

One company is created. The address, city, state, country, postal code, and website are taken from the most recently created contact.

Limits and behavior

  • Only Admin users (agency or sub-account) can enable the setting. Users with the User role see the toggle but can't change it.
  • Contacts already associated to a company are not migrated, even if the Business Name differs.
  • Turning the setting off stops auto-sync. Turning it back on resumes from where it left off.
  • Bulk imports, public API submissions, and form submissions all sync if the Business Name field is populated.
  • CSV imports must include a column with the header Business Name.
  • Audit logs track who enabled the setting, contact updates, company creation, and company updates.

What it doesn't do

  • No backward compatibility. Renaming a company doesn't push back to the contact's Business Name field.
  • No business name updates. Editing a Business Name on a contact already linked to a company doesn't change the company.
  • No fix for misspelled imports. If you import contacts with the wrong Business Name spelling, you have to delete and re-import them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the automation merge companies with the same name but different spellings?
No. Sparkforge treats each unique spelling as a separate company. Clean up your contact data before enabling the automation if consistency matters.
Can I run this on existing contacts?
Yes. When you enable the setting, Sparkforge migrates every existing contact with a populated Business Name. New contacts sync automatically going forward.
What if a contact already has a company association?
They're skipped. The automation only creates and associates companies for contacts that aren't already linked to one.
Can I undo the automation?
You can turn the setting off to stop future syncing, but companies that were already created stay. Manually delete companies if you need to revert.
Does this work with bulk CSV imports?
Yes. Make sure the CSV has a column header named exactly Business Name and that values are spelled and spaced consistently.
