Custom Values in Sparkforge are reusable key:value pairs you set once and reference everywhere. Update the value and every place using its key updates automatically. Manage them under Settings > Custom Values.

Custom Values are key:value pairs you create once and reuse anywhere in Sparkforge. Change the value in one place and every spot that references the key updates automatically — no find-and-replace across templates, automations, and pages.

What Custom Values are

Each Custom Value has a Name (which becomes the Key) and a Value. Use the Key in emails, SMS, automations, and forms. Update the Value in one place and every reference picks up the new value.

Create a Custom Value

  1. In your Sub-Account, go to Settings > Custom Values.
  2. Click New Custom Value in the upper right.
  3. Fill in the fields:
    • Name — becomes the Key. Example: My Custom Value generates custom_values.my_custom_value.
    • Value — what gets substituted in everywhere the Key is used.
    • Folder (optional) — for organization.

Manage Custom Values

Folders

Open the Folders tab and click Add New Custom Value Folder. A Custom Value can live in only one folder, and folders can't be nested.

Click the three-dot menu on a folder to rename or delete it.

Search

Use the search field at the top right of the All Values list to filter by keyword.

Single-item actions

Click the three-dot menu next to any Custom Value:

  • Move to Folder — pick a target folder and click Move.
  • Edit Custom Value — change the Name, Value, or folder. Note: changing the Name does not change the Key.
  • Delete Custom Value — confirm in the modal.

Bulk actions

Select multiple Custom Values via the checkboxes to expose Bulk Actions:

  • Bulk Move to Folder — pick a target folder and move all selected items.
  • Bulk Delete — confirm to remove all selected items.

Important: changing the Name doesn't change the Key

Once a Custom Value is created, the Key is locked. If you rename a Custom Value, the underlying Key stays the same — references in your templates and workflows keep working.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Name and the Key?
The Name is the human-readable label. The Key is auto-generated from the Name on creation (lowercased, underscored) and is what you reference in templates. Renaming a Custom Value changes the Name but not the Key.
Can I nest folders?
No. Folders are flat, and a Custom Value can only live in one folder at a time.
Where do I reference a Custom Value?
Anywhere in Sparkforge that supports merge fields — emails, SMS, automations, forms, workflows, and more. Use the format custom_values.your_key.
Can I update many at once?
Yes. Select multiple Custom Values with the checkboxes to expose Bulk Move and Bulk Delete actions.
What happens if I delete a Custom Value still in use?
References to its Key will resolve to empty in templates and workflows. Audit usage before deleting widely-referenced values.
