How to Build Recipient Segments in Sparkforge Email Campaigns

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

In the email campaign builder, open Send Or Schedule, choose Build Segments, and combine filters like tags and engagement with AND/OR logic. Segments update in real time.

Segments are dynamic contact groups defined by filters — tags, email activity, custom fields, engagement. Unlike static lists, they update automatically as contacts move in and out of the criteria, so every campaign hits the right audience without manual cleanup.

How to build a segment

  1. Open Marketing > Emails > Campaigns and create or edit a campaign.
  2. Click Send Or Schedule in the top right of the email builder.
  3. Scroll to the Recipient (To) section and select Build Segments.
  4. Add filters. Example: Tag is Compliant AND Pre-Built Segment is Contacts Engaged in Last 7 days.
  5. Use Add Filter for AND logic and Add OR Filter for OR logic.
  6. Save the segment or click Review and Send.

Smart Lists are CRM views you reuse for general filtering. Segments are campaign-specific and resolve at send time, so they're the right tool for live audience targeting in email and workflows.

Why use segments

  • Auto-refresh based on contact behavior and field values
  • Reuse across multiple campaigns
  • Reduce bounces by excluding inactive or unqualified leads
  • Combine filters with AND/OR logic for precise targeting
  • Skip manual list maintenance entirely

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I reuse a segment across campaigns?
Yes. Saved segments are available for any campaign. Pick the one you need from the segment list when building the recipient block.
Are segments live or static?
Live. Segments update in real time as contact data changes, so each send hits the contacts that match right now.
Can I use OR logic?
Yes. Use Add OR Filter alongside AND filters to build mixed conditions.
What's the difference between Smart Lists and Segments?
Smart Lists are saved views in the Contact Manager for general filtering. Segments are used in the campaign builder and workflows and resolve dynamically at send time.
Can I add or remove specific contacts from a segment?
No. Segments are filter-driven only. Use tags or Smart Lists if you need to manage contacts manually.
