Social Planner supports @mentions when composing posts. Tags work natively on Facebook and LinkedIn company pages; Instagram, TikTok, and GMB accept plain-text mentions only.
Social Planner now supports @mentions in posts. Native tagging works for Facebook and LinkedIn (company pages only). Instagram, TikTok, and Google Business Profile accept the @username as plain text.
Why use mentions
- Boost engagement by tagging customers, partners, or featured brands.
- Cross-promote with other accounts — both sides reach each other's followers.
- Improve searchability on platforms where mentions feed discovery.
Things to know before you tag
- Mentions don't apply to CSV bulk uploads, Review Posting, or RSS Posting.
- A successful tag highlights blue in the post preview. No highlight means the platform didn't recognize it.
- Auto-suggestions are not available for Instagram. Type the
@usernamemanually, and the tagged account must allow mentions in their settings.
How to add a mention
- Go to Marketing in the left navigation.
- Click Social Planner on the top ribbon.
- Click the blue + New Post button and select + Create New Post.
- Pick the social channels you want to publish to. If multiple channels are selected, enable Customize for each.
- Write the post. Type
@followed by the username. After a few characters, suggestions appear (except on Instagram). - Pick the profile from the suggestions, then schedule or publish as normal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which platforms support native @mentions?
Facebook and LinkedIn company pages support clickable native tags. Instagram, TikTok, and Google Business Profile accept the mention as plain text only.
Why isn't my mention showing as highlighted?
If the tag doesn't turn blue in preview, the platform didn't recognize the username. Double-check spelling and confirm the account has mentions enabled (especially on Instagram).
Can I @mention through bulk CSV uploads?
No. Mentions are only available in the standard post composer. CSV uploads, Review Posting, and RSS Posting don't support tagging.
Why is Instagram missing the auto-suggest dropdown?
Instagram's API doesn't expose mention search to third parties. You have to type the full @username manually, and the user must allow tags in their privacy settings.
