How to Troubleshoot Facebook Publishing Errors in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Most Facebook publishing failures come from missing admin permission, an expired access token, or content Facebook flagged. Match the error message to the fix below and reconnect the page if needed.

Facebook publishing breaks for a small set of repeatable reasons. Match the error message you see in Social Planner to the fix below. Most issues clear after you reauthorize permissions or have the original connecting user reconnect the page.

Facebook pages not showing in the list

Content permission missing despite Business Manager access

Sparkforge needs direct admin rights on the page, not Business Manager access. In Facebook, open the page, click Manage, then Page Access. If you are listed under People with Facebook access, you have what you need. If not, ask the owner to add you with full access.

If the page does not have anyone with Facebook access, the owner can:

  1. Invite another person as admin with full access.
  2. Have that person invite the original owner back with full access.
  3. Optionally remove the temporary admin once permissions are right.

Page is missing even though I am admin

The user who first connected the integration did not authorize that page. Fix it in Facebook:

  1. Go to Settings and Privacy → Settings → Business Integrations → Sparkforge.
  2. Click View and Edit.
  3. Tick every page and permission you want available.
  4. Save, then reconnect inside Social Planner.

Facebook post failed to publish

1. Abusive or reported content

Facebook flagged either the body or a linked URL as a community standards violation. Edit the content, swap the link, and republish.

2. Error validating access token

The Facebook session expired. This happens when the connecting user changed their password or did not post for 90+ days. Have that same user reconnect the page in Social Planner settings.

3. Two-factor authentication required

If the page enforces 2FA, the connecting user must also have 2FA enabled on their personal account. Turn it on, then reconnect the page.

4. manage_permissions must be granted

The connecting user is publishing on a client's pages as an admin but did not approve the manage_permissions scope during authorization. Reconnect and approve every requested permission this time.

5. Missing or invalid image

The image or its source link is broken or unreachable. Re-upload the image directly to the post instead of relying on a remote link.

6. An unknown error occurred

Usually a permissions gap on the access token. Reconnect the page and approve every permission. If only some posts fail, the token is partially scoped — full reconnect is the cleanest fix.

7. The URL you supplied is invalid or could not be posted

Facebook's link indexer was overloaded when it tried to read your URL. Wait a few minutes and republish — the same link almost always works on the second try.

8. Cannot reconnect a page or group

The page must be reconnected by the same Facebook user who originally connected it. If that user is gone, have the current admin disconnect the integration in Location Settings → Integrations, then reconnect with their account.

Example: Emily connected the page. Now Alex (account admin) wants to reconnect because the token expired. Either Alex uses Emily's Facebook account, or Emily reconnects the page herself through the gear icon in Social Planner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Sparkforge need admin and not Business Manager access?
Facebook's Pages API requires direct admin access for content and insight permissions. Business Manager grants access to other tools but does not satisfy the API scopes Social Planner needs.
How do I clear an expired access token?
The user who originally connected the page reconnects it in Social Planner settings. Other users cannot refresh the token because Facebook ties it to the original authorization.
What does manage_permissions must be granted mean?
You skipped or unchecked a permission during the Facebook authorization. Reconnect the page and approve every permission Facebook asks for.
Why does my image post fail with a missing image error?
The image source URL is broken or blocked. Upload the image directly to the post in Sparkforge instead of pulling it from a remote link.
Can a different admin reconnect a page connected by someone else?
No. Facebook ties the integration to the original connecting user. Either that user reconnects, or the current admin fully disconnects and reconnects with their own account.
