How to Create a Certificate Template in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The Sparkforge certificate builder uses the same engine as the badge builder, with responsive editing, standard and custom canvas sizes, and drag-and-drop design elements.

Certificates let you recognize user accomplishments inside Communities. The first release focuses on certificates for course completion. The builder is rebuilt for faster loading, smoother editing, and more layout flexibility — no third-party design tools required.

Builder features

  • Responsive canvas: Real-time editing with instant previews.
  • Sizes: A4, US Letter, or custom canvas dimensions.
  • Design elements: Editable lines, shapes, graphics, and icons via drag-and-drop.
  • Templates: Pre-designed templates you can customize for your brand.
  • Frames and signatures: Multiple frame options and signature fields with pre-set font styles.
  • Backgrounds: Gradient backgrounds, uploaded images, or pattern fills with zoom, pan, and crop.

If you've used the Badge Builder, the controls match — same design engine.

Editing elements

Layout

Click Layout and pick Portrait or Landscape. Each layout has its own frame options. Click an active frame again to remove it. Switching layouts mid-edit will disrupt existing placements, so set this first.

Background

Click Background to set a color, upload an image, or pick a pattern. Use the opacity slider to control intensity. For patterns, choose a color after selecting the pattern.

Header and Text

Drag the Header or Text element onto the canvas. Edit text inline. Use the top bar for font style, size, type, and color. Move the blue handles to resize. Use the copy and delete icons to clone or remove elements.

Image

Drag the Image element. Upload a file or paste a link. Adjust opacity and size as needed.

Badge

Drag the Badge element and pick a badge from the options. Resize with the corner handles.

Signatures

Drag the Signature element. Pick the signature style and adjust placement.

Preview and save

  1. Click Preview to check the certificate.
  2. Enter a name at the top.
  3. Click Save.

Manage saved templates

Saved templates appear under the Templates tab. Use the three-dot menu to Preview, Edit, or Delete a template.

Frequently Asked Questions

What canvas sizes does the certificate builder support?
A4, US Letter, and custom dimensions. You can change the size at any time before adding too many elements.
Can I switch a template from portrait to landscape after editing?
You can, but it will disrupt your existing element placements. Pick the layout first, then build the certificate.
How do I add my own logo to a certificate?
Drag the Image element onto the canvas, then upload your logo file or paste an image URL. Resize with the blue handles and use the opacity slider if needed.
Can I delete a template I no longer use?
Yes. Open the Templates tab, click the three dots on the template, and choose Delete.
Do badges and certificates share a builder?
They use the same design engine, so the controls and behavior match the Badge Builder.
