Default Course and Category Completion Certificates
New Sparkforge courses ship with a default completion certificate already attached. Add category completion certificates to award learners a credential when they finish a specific section instead of the full course.
Sparkforge attaches a default course completion certificate to every new course and lets you award additional certificates when learners finish a category. That cuts manual setup and lets you recognize partial progress on long courses.
What's included
- Default course certificates — every new course gets one automatically.
- Editable or removable — keep the default, swap it for a custom template, or delete it entirely.
- Direct integration — attach default and custom certificates from inside the course builder.
- Category certificates — award a certificate at the end of a specific section, not just course completion.

How category certificates behave
- The certificate appears as the final lesson inside the category preview.
- It is awarded automatically once every required lesson in the category is complete.
- Position is fixed — category certificates always sit at the end of their category and cannot be reordered.
Note: Certificates only fire when the course or section is 100% complete. Partial completion does not trigger them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do existing courses get the default certificate?
The default certificate auto-attaches to courses created after the feature was rolled out. For older courses, attach a certificate manually from the Course Completion Certificate section.
Can I have both a category certificate and a course certificate?
Yes. Add category certificates to one or more sections and keep the course completion certificate attached. Learners can earn both as they progress.
When does the certificate get issued?
Only when the course or section reaches 100% completion. Skipping a required lesson or leaving a quiz unfinished blocks the certificate.
Can I move a category certificate inside a category?
No. Category certificates are pinned to the end of their category and cannot be reordered. The only way to remove one is to delete it.
How do I customize the certificate design?
Use the certificate template editor to build a custom template, then attach it from the course or category certificate settings using Edit Certificate or Choose Certificate.
