Track Calls and Send Missed Call Text Backs from Google Business Profile
Sparkforge's Google Business Profile integration moves your real business number to the secondary slot and adds a Sparkforge tracking number to the primary slot. Calls get logged, and missed calls trigger an automatic text back if enabled.
Google Business Profile lets you list two phone numbers. Sparkforge uses that to track every call from your GBP listing without hurting SEO — the real number simply moves to the secondary slot. Here's exactly what happens when you toggle GBP Call Tracking on, and how to control which Sparkforge number gets pushed.
What happens when you toggle GBP Call Tracking ON
Case 1: GBP already shows a Sparkforge number
Nothing changes. The number is already tracked.
Case 2: GBP shows the real business number, and that number is already a forwarding target for a Sparkforge number
Sparkforge moves the real number to the secondary slot and adds the matching Sparkforge tracking number to the primary slot.
Case 3: GBP shows a real number that isn't tied to any Sparkforge number yet
Sparkforge moves the real number to the secondary slot, adds a Sparkforge number to the primary slot, and configures call forwarding so the Sparkforge number forwards to the real number.
Which Sparkforge number gets pushed to GBP
When you connect GBP to a sub-account, Sparkforge picks a tracking number using this hierarchy:
- Primary location number assigned under Settings > Phone Numbers. This is usually the number created during onboarding.
- First number with call forwarding enabled if no primary is explicitly set.
- Any available number in the sub-account if forwarding isn't configured anywhere.
- No number available — the integration won't complete. Provision a number first.
What it looks like in practice
Example A: GBP already has a Sparkforge number
A customer searches "ABC Dental" on Google and taps Call. The call hits the Sparkforge tracking number. If the team answers, the call is logged in Sparkforge. If nobody answers, Missed Call Text Back fires (if enabled) and texts the caller from the same Sparkforge number.
Example B: GBP had a real landline that already forwards into Sparkforge
Before toggle: GBP primary = (555) 111-2222 (real landline). After toggle: GBP primary = Sparkforge tracking number, GBP secondary = (555) 111-2222.
The customer taps Call on Google. The call hits the Sparkforge tracking number, which forwards to (555) 111-2222 because forwarding was already configured. If missed, Sparkforge texts the caller back automatically.
Enabling Missed Call Text Back
Missed Call Text Back is a sub-account setting. Open Sub-Account > Settings > Phone Numbers, pick the tracking number, and configure the auto-text under the missed call rules. The text fires the moment a call goes unanswered.
