How to Use the Edit Conversation Workflow Action in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The Edit Conversation action lets a workflow mark a conversation read/unread or archive/unarchive it automatically. Use it to keep the inbox tidy without manual cleanup.

The Edit Conversation workflow action in Sparkforge updates a conversation’s status the moment a workflow runs. It removes the manual step of marking threads read or archiving completed chats.

What it does

It changes two attributes on a conversation: read status and archive status. Trigger it from any workflow event — contact replied, appointment status changed, tag added — to keep the inbox aligned with reality.

Add the action to a workflow

  1. Go to Automation in your dashboard.
  2. Click + Create Workflow and pick Start from scratch, or open an existing workflow.
  3. Click + Add Action, search Edit Conversation, and select it.
  4. Name the action descriptively (for example, Mark as Read & Archive).

Configure the action

Read status

  • Mark as Read: flags the conversation as read without opening it.
  • Mark as Unread: resets to unread so it stays visible in the inbox.
  • None: leaves the current status untouched.

Archive status

  • Archive: moves the conversation out of active view.
  • Unarchive: restores it to the Recents tab.
  • None: no change.

Save and publish

Click Save Action, then Publish Workflow. The status changes apply to whichever conversation is in scope when the workflow fires for a contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I auto-archive completed conversations?
Yes. Trigger the workflow on Contact Replied or Appointment Status Changed, then add Edit Conversation set to Archive.
What happens if I set both options to None?
The action runs but changes nothing. Pick at least one of read status or archive status to have an effect.
Does this notify the user when a conversation is archived?
No. Add a separate Send Notification action if your team needs an alert.
Can the action update conversations in bulk?
No. It runs per-contact inside a workflow. Build a workflow that targets the contact list to apply at scale.
