How to Automate Facebook and Instagram Comments in Sparkforge
Connect Facebook and Instagram in Subaccount > Settings > Integrations, then build a workflow with a comment trigger plus actions like Reply In Comments, Interactive Messenger, or ChatGPT to automate replies and DMs.
Facebook and Instagram have billions of users but barely any tools for managing the conversations they generate. Sparkforge bridges that gap with workflow triggers that fire on comments and actions that reply, DM, or run AI completions — all from inside your CRM.
Before you start
Connect your Facebook and Instagram accounts to your sub-account: Subaccount > Settings > Integrations > Facebook & Instagram. Make sure Instagram is linked to your Facebook Business page — the page settings should show both icons.
Triggers
- Facebook Comment(s) On A Post — fires on new comments on a Facebook post.
- Instagram Comment(s) On A Post — fires on new comments on an Instagram post.
- Customer Replied — fires on a reply through Facebook Messenger or Instagram DM.
Actions
- Reply In Comments — posts a public comment under the customer's comment.
- Facebook Interactive Messenger — sends a Messenger DM.
- Instagram Interactive Messenger — sends an Instagram DM.
- ChatGPT by OpenAI — sends a prompt to ChatGPT and uses the completion later in the workflow.
Recipes (pre-built workflow templates)
- Instagram Comment Automation — a full "comment to get the file" flow on Instagram.
- Facebook Comments + Workflow AI — AI-customized reply that DMs only positive comments.
- Facebook Comment Automation — the Facebook version of the file-delivery flow.
Configuring the trigger
- Click Add Trigger and search the Facebook/Instagram events category.
- Pick the trigger that matches the platform.
- Select the Page. Every other field depends on this.
- Choose the Post Type: Published (any post on the page) or Custom (paste a specific post URL or ID).
- Set the comment match: Contains Phrase or Exact Match.
- Optionally toggle on first-level comments only so replies to other comments don't trigger.
Match examples
| Match type | Filter | Inbound comment | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exact | Price | Price | Pass |
| Exact | Share the Price | Please share the Price | Fail |
| Contains | I bought from you | I bought from you yesterday | Pass |
| Contains | I bought from you | I bought one from you | Fail |
When the trigger fires, the commenter is saved as a contact with their first and last name.
Configuring Interactive Messenger
- Pick the Reply Type:
- Reply to DM — use when the customer DM'd you first.
- Reply to comment via DM — use when you're DMing in response to a comment. The first action in this flow must be this type; subsequent actions become Reply to DM.
- Configure the message: pick a template or write your own.
- Optionally attach files via drive or URL.
- Add up to 3 buttons. Three button types are available:
- Open Website — opens a URL.
- Call Number — dials the number you specify.
- Perform Actions — continues the workflow with more actions.
- Set the Default Wait Time (defaults to 1 minute, editable).
- The Default Branch catches contacts who don't reply or who hit the Call button.
Reply in Comments action
Posts a comment under the customer's comment. Add multiple replies and Sparkforge picks one at random for each fire. The toggle to also like the comment is built in.
Things to know
- The Page is filter is the foundation. Delete it and every dependent filter resets.
- Up to 3 buttons per Interactive Messenger action.
- Nothing can come after a Call button — the contact moves to the Default Branch.
- Reply to DM checks for a conversation in the last 24 hours. No conversation means delivery fails (Meta's rule, not ours).
- Reply to comment via DM has a 7-day window. Send the DM within 7 days of the comment or it fails.
- If the contact doesn't reply to the first Interactive Messenger action, subsequent ones won't fire in the Default Timeout branch.
