How to Use the Google Sheets Workflow Action in Sparkforge
The Google Sheets premium workflow action reads and writes rows in a connected Google Sheet directly from Sparkforge — no Zapier or Make in the middle. It supports create, lookup, update, and delete on single or multiple rows, with all sheet data exposed as merge fields.
The Google Sheets premium action turns a Google Sheet into a live data source for Sparkforge workflows. Rows can be created, looked up, updated, and deleted directly from a workflow — no separate automation tool, no API code.
What the Action Does
Inside the workflow builder this is a single action. Inside that action you choose a function — Create Row, Lookup Row, Update Row, Delete Row, and their multi-row variants. The original Google Sheet schema (column headers) drives the field map, so you can write to any column you like.
Why Use It
- Structured, predictable data layout for marketing, sales, or ops teams.
- Sync runs in real time during the workflow rather than on a schedule.
- One platform — no Zapier, Make, or n8n in the loop.
- Scales with the sheet, no extra hops to break.
Before You Start
- Connect a Google account to the Sparkforge sub-account.
- Create the Google Sheet, name it, and add clear column headers in row 1.
- Enable Premium Triggers & Actions at the agency and sub-account level.
Premium actions are billed at $0.01 per execution. Each new sub-account gets 100 free executions. You can rebill them automatically through the SaaS configurator, or resell the Workflow Pro plan to bulk-purchase executions at a discount.
Set Up the Action
- Open Automations > Workflows and create or edit a workflow.
- Click + Add Action and choose Google Sheets Premium Workflow Action.
- If you have not connected a Google account yet, authenticate.
- Pick the function (Create Row, Lookup, Update, Delete).
- Choose the Drive, Spreadsheet, and Worksheet. Knowing exact names speeds up search.
- Click Refresh Headers so Sparkforge reads row 1.
- Map workflow fields to columns and save.
Functions Available
| Function | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Create Spreadsheet Row | Adds a new row at the end of the sheet |
| Create Multiple Spreadsheet Rows | Adds several rows at once |
| Lookup Spreadsheet Row | Finds the first row that matches a search |
| Lookup Multiple Spreadsheet Rows | Returns the matched row plus N additional rows |
| Update Specific Spreadsheet Row | Updates a numbered row |
| Update Multiple Spreadsheet Rows | Updates several numbered rows |
| Update Spreadsheet Row Using Lookup | Finds a row by search and updates it |
| Delete Spreadsheet Row | Deletes a numbered row |
Common Use Cases
- Append every new lead to a master sheet shared with sales.
- Lookup a contact by email and pull their account number into a workflow message.
- Update an opportunity sheet when a pipeline stage changes.
- Sync paid invoices to a finance reconciliation sheet.
Outputs
Every function exposes its result as merge fields. For a Lookup, you can use {{google_sheets.1.column_name}} in any later action — emails, SMS, if/else branches, or another Sheets call.
Troubleshooting
- Headers not showing: click Refresh Headers. Headers must be in row 1 with no blank cells in the header row.
- Action fails with auth error: reconnect the Google account in Sparkforge — tokens expire if access was revoked.
- Lookup returns nothing: confirm the search column matches the data exactly. Lookups are case-sensitive and trim whitespace as written.
- Multi-row create skips rows: check that the input array has the same number of values per row as columns mapped.
