Why Sparkforge Charges VAT, GST, or HST on Your Invoice

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge charges VAT, GST, or HST on invoices for non-U.S. customers to comply with international tax law. A valid Tax ID in your billing profile may exempt you, except in jurisdictions that require tax regardless.

This article applies to non-United States Sparkforge customers. For step-by-step instructions on updating Tax ID information for an agency, see your billing profile in Settings.

Why is Sparkforge charging VAT, GST, or HST?

Sparkforge applies VAT, GST, or HST where international tax regulations require it. Whether tax applies depends on your jurisdiction. Most customers are charged only when no Tax ID is on file. Some jurisdictions—including Mexico, Switzerland, South Africa, Malaysia, Indonesia, Serbia, and certain Canadian provinces—require tax to be collected even when a Tax ID is provided.

When did the tax charges begin?

Timing depends on jurisdiction. Customers should expect VAT/GST line items to appear on invoices issued in early 2025 and beyond.

Are all international customers charged?

Yes, where applicable. Some exceptions:

  • Your country doesn’t require tax on sales to registered businesses, and you’ve provided a valid Tax ID in your billing profile.
  • Sparkforge has determined VAT/GST doesn’t apply to the transaction.

Tax law changes from time to time and can affect both whether tax is charged and how much.

I gave you my Tax ID. Why am I still being charged?

Some jurisdictions require tax on every transaction, including B2B sales to companies with valid Tax IDs. Examples include South Africa, Mexico, Switzerland, Serbia, Malaysia, Indonesia, and certain Canadian provinces.

Can I get a refund of tax I’ve already paid?
