How to Add Processing Charges or Convenience Fees in Sparkforge
Sparkforge can add a processing or convenience fee to customer payments as a separate line item. Set the percentage and label, pick which payment sources it applies to (Invoices, Funnels, E-commerce, etc.), and the fee shows up at checkout and on receipts.
The Processing Charge feature adds a configurable fee — a processing fee, convenience fee, or other surcharge — on top of customer payments. The charge shows as a distinct line item at checkout and on the receipt, so it's transparent to the customer.
Compliance note. Surcharging is regulated and prohibited in some jurisdictions. You're responsible for confirming it's legal to apply where your customers pay.
How the Fee Is Calculated
The processing fee applies to the actual amount processed:
- Standard: (Subtotal − Discounts + Taxes)
- E-commerce: (Subtotal − Discounts + Taxes + Shipping)
Fees are rounded to two decimal places before being added to the total.
Where the Fee Can Apply
- Invoices & Estimates
- Funnels
- E-commerce Stores (excluding upsell products)
- Payment Links
- Forms
- Surveys
- Services
Not supported: PayPal and custom payment providers — except for Invoices, where it works for all payment providers.
How to Configure a Processing Charge
- Log in to your sub-account.
- Go to Payments → Settings.
- Scroll to the Miscellaneous Charges section.
- Enable the Processing Charges toggle.
- Set a label (e.g., Convenience Fee, Processing Charge) — this appears on the customer's checkout summary and receipt.
- Enter the fee percentage (e.g., 2.5%).
- Check the payment sources where the fee should apply.
- Click Save.
Behavior Notes
- Draft invoices reflect the new fee only after they're edited following enablement.
- Invoices already sent or orders already placed before enablement are unaffected.
- Disabling the feature doesn't retroactively remove charges from existing invoices or orders unless those documents are still editable.
- The processing charge displays as its own line item at checkout and is included in the final total.
- Invoices paid via the mobile app don't yet apply this fee.
Where Customers See the Fee
- E-commerce store checkouts: shown as a line item before payment.
- Invoices & Estimates: appears after the customer clicks Pay.
- Funnels, Forms, Payment Links: rolled into the total amount with itemization.
Reporting
The Transactions CSV and Orders CSV exports include processing charge fields. Filter by date range, payment channel, or label, and export for reconciliation.
Troubleshooting: Fee Not Showing on Invoices
- In Payments → Settings → Miscellaneous Charges, confirm Invoices & Estimates is checked and the settings are saved.
- For invoices, the fee appears after the customer clicks Pay — it may not show on the initial invoice view.
