Voice AI Noise Cancellation and Backchanneling in Sparkforge
Sparkforge Voice AI noise cancellation filters background sound and optional background speech; backchanneling adds short acknowledgments like 'uh-huh' during pauses. Configure both per agent under Advanced Settings, then validate with a test call.
Voice AI calls sound clearer with two audio enhancements working together. Noise Cancellation filters ambient sound. Backchanneling inserts short listener cues during brief pauses so callers know they are being heard.
Noise Cancellation modes
- Remove Noise: filters common ambient sounds like HVAC hum, keyboard taps, and traffic.
- Remove Noise + Background Speech: adds suppression of overlapping voices for shared offices and call centers.
Backchanneling settings
- Frequency: set how often acknowledgments occur, from rare to frequent.
- Words: edit the list of short phrases (for example, “yeah”, “okay”, “uh-huh”) to match your brand, language, and culture.
Configure an agent
- Go to Voice AI → Agents and click Edit on the target agent.
- Open the Advanced Settings panel.
- Choose your Noise Cancellation mode.
- Enable Backchanneling, set Frequency, and adjust Backchannel Words if needed.
- Click Save.
Test before going live
- Use built-in Call Me or Web Call to preview clarity and cadence.
- Have a teammate speak from a typical environment — open office, car, cafe — to validate.
- Review the call in Voice AI → Dashboard / Logs for audio quality and pacing.
Recommended defaults
- Start simple: Remove Noise only. Escalate to Background Speech suppression if nearby talk still bleeds in.
- Moderate cadence: set Backchannel Frequency to a middle value for natural flow.
- Short, neutral phrases: brief acknowledgments that match your culture and language.
- Pair with Idle Reminder Timer: if used, raise the idle threshold so backchannels do not crowd the conversation.
- Validate in real scenarios: test where agents actually work.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do these settings affect both sides of the call?
Yes. Noise suppression focuses audio on the primary speaker, improving clarity for both the caller and the agent.
Will backchanneling talk over the caller?
No. Acknowledgments only insert during brief pauses to avoid interrupting speech.
Can I customize phrases per language?
Yes. Edit the Backchannel Words list and confirm the selected voice supports your target language.
Can I set different settings per agent?
Yes, where agent-level Audio Enhancements are available. Edit each agent to apply specific Noise and Backchanneling settings.
What should I test before rollout?
Validate clarity in real environments (open office, car), confirm cadence feels natural, and review recordings for any unintended voice suppression.
