How to Test Voice AI Agents in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Test Sparkforge Voice AI agents with a Web Call (browser, instant, no number needed) or a Phone Call (real telephony). Trials produce transcripts, recordings, and summaries excluded from production analytics.

Test calls let you simulate real conversations with a Voice AI agent before going live. Use them to validate prompts, knowledge, and post-call actions, then iterate quickly.

Two ways to test

  • Web Call — browser-based, no phone number needed, instant. Maps the session to your logged-in contact. Call transfer is not supported in Web Call trials.
  • Phone Call — real telephony path. Uses your existing setup; standard rates may apply.

Why test

  • Faster iteration — hear responses immediately and adjust prompts
  • Realistic validation through the Phone Call path
  • High feature parity (Web Call excludes call transfer)
  • Trial activity stays out of production analytics

Run a Web Call

  1. Open AI Agents from the left sidebar and click Voice AI.
  2. Select Agent List and edit the agent you want to test.
  3. In the Test Your Agent panel, click Web Call.
  4. Pick scenario (Inbound or Outbound) and click Start Web Call.
  5. Allow microphone access when prompted.
  6. Speak with the agent. Use the Live Transcript panel to follow along.
  7. Adjust prompts, knowledge base, or settings, then test again.

Tips: Allow microphone access, confirm input/output devices, use a current browser.

Run a Phone Call

  1. Open AI Agents → Voice AI, select Agent List, edit the agent.
  2. In Test Your Agent, click Phone Call and pick scenario.
  3. Select Caller ID (the number the agent calls from).
  4. Enter your phone number to receive the call.
  5. Click Call me and answer the incoming call.
  6. Review Call History or Dashboard Logs for transcripts, recordings, and summaries.

Outbound availability: the Outbound scenario only appears when your sub-account is approved for Voice AI outbound calling. If missing, go to AI Agents → Voice AI, click Enable Outbound Calls, and complete registration.

Test during agent creation

You can also test inside the Create Agent flow. The Test Your Agent panel on the Phone & Availability step runs the same Web Call and Phone Call trials, with the same Call History, transcripts, and summaries.

Where to find test logs

  • Open Test Your Agent after a trial and click Call History, or
  • Go to Voice AI → Dashboards & Logs and filter by Call Type: Test.

Each entry shows scenario, duration, call status, transcript, recording, caller identity, and summary.

Field reference

FieldWhat it means
ScenarioInbound or Outbound — compare behaviour by call direction.
DurationConnected time. Very short durations often signal early hang-ups or permission issues.
Call StatusCompleted, Missed, Failed, or Canceled.
TranscriptFull conversation text for prompt tuning.
RecordingAudio playback (when available) for tone and pacing review.
Caller IdentityWeb Call uses your logged-in contact; Phone Call shows the dialed number.
Call SummaryAuto-generated recap for fast scanning.

Test calls are excluded from Dashboard Analytics and Performance Metrics so they don’t pollute production data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy a phone number to test?
No, if you use Web Call — it runs in the browser. Phone Call uses your existing telephony setup, and standard rates may apply.
Are test calls counted in analytics?
No. Test calls are excluded from dashboard analytics and performance metrics, so trials don’t skew production reporting.
Can I test call transfer to a human?
Only on Phone Call. Web Call trials don’t support call transfer. Use a Phone Call test to validate transfer behavior.
Who shows up as the caller during a Web Call?
Your logged-in user’s contact is mapped automatically as the caller identity for the trial.
Why don’t I see the Outbound scenario?
Outbound only appears once your sub-account is approved for Voice AI outbound calling. Open AI Agents → Voice AI, click Enable Outbound Calls, and complete the compliance registration.
