Test Voice AI Without a Phone Number Using Web Call

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Web Call is a browser-based trial for Sparkforge Voice AI agents. Test prompts, actions, and call flow without buying a phone number. Call transfer is the one feature not supported in this mode.

Buying a phone number to test a half-built Voice AI agent is friction. Web Call gives you a browser-based trial so you can iterate on prompts and actions before committing to a number.

What Web Call is

Web Call is a browser-based test method for Sparkforge Voice AI agents. You speak with the agent through your browser, the call follows the same prompt and action logic that production calls use, and the result lands in your Voice AI logs.

Web Call is built for testing. Live telephony still follows the production calling requirements once you launch.

How to start a Web Call

  1. Open AI Agents > Voice AI and pick the agent you want to test.
  2. Use the in-app trial or Web Call option to launch the call.
  3. Speak with the agent directly through your browser.
  4. End the call and review logs, transcripts, and recordings.

How Web Call behaves

  • Runs in your browser without a phone number.
  • The logged-in user's contact is used as the caller during the trial.
  • Most agent actions can be tested.
  • Call transfer is not supported during a Web Call trial.
  • Test calls do not count toward dashboard analytics or performance metrics.
  • Trials appear in Voice AI logs alongside transcripts and recordings.

Supported vs not supported

Supported

  • Prompt validation
  • Conversation flow
  • Tool and action triggers (other than transfer)
  • Transcript and recording review after the call

Not supported

  • Call transfer
  • Carrier-specific telephony behaviors that need a real number

When to switch to phone-based testing

Once Web Call validates the prompt and the agent's reasoning, move to phone-based testing for transfer flows, IVR routing, and any behavior that depends on real telephony.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a phone number to start testing a Voice AI agent?
No. Web Call runs in the browser so you can validate prompts, actions, and conversation flow before assigning a number.
Are Web Call test calls counted in my analytics?
No. Trial calls do not count toward dashboard analytics or performance metrics so you can iterate without skewing reports.
Can I test call transfer with Web Call?
No. Call transfer is the one Voice AI feature that is not supported during a Web Call trial. Use a phone-based test for transfer flows.
Where do trial call recordings and transcripts go?
Web Call results land in your Voice AI logs alongside recordings and transcripts, so you can review and refine after each iteration.
What contact is used as the caller during a Web Call?
The logged-in user's contact is automatically used as the caller. This keeps the trial associated with your account during testing.
