Layout Visibility Controls in the Email Builder
Layout-level visibility lets you hide or show whole sections of an email by device. Hover a layout to toggle desktop or mobile, or use the Visibility tab in the side panel.
The Sparkforge email builder now supports visibility settings on entire layout blocks, not just individual elements. Hide whole sections on mobile or desktop in one click.
Why use layout visibility
- Hide multi-column desktop layouts on mobile without removing each element.
- Show simplified single-column or CTA-only layouts on mobile only.
- Keep one template responsive instead of building two versions.
Set visibility on a layout
- Create or open an email template in the drag-and-drop builder.
- Add a layout block to the design.
- Hover the layout. Desktop and mobile icons appear.
- Click an icon to toggle visibility for that device. A grayed-out icon means the layout is hidden on that view.
- Or click the layout and use the Visibility tab in the left panel.
Preview before sending
- Use the Desktop and Mobile preview toggles in the builder toolbar.
- Send a test email to confirm the layout appears as expected on real devices.
Best practices
- Use desktop-only layouts for wide tables or multi-column hero sections.
- Use mobile-only layouts for single CTA blocks tuned to thumb taps.
- Combine layout-level and element-level visibility for fine control.
- Always test send before launch.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I hide a layout for both desktop and mobile?
It will not render on either view. Make sure at least one view stays visible if the content matters.
Can I still adjust element visibility inside a hidden layout?
You can set it, but if the layout itself is hidden, the inner elements never render. The layout setting wins.
Are visibility settings honored in test emails?
Yes. Test sends respect both layout-level and element-level visibility.
How is this different from element-level visibility?
Layout-level visibility hides every element inside the block in one toggle. Element-level visibility hides items individually within a visible layout.
