Add a Video Element to Emails in Sparkforge
The Video element in Sparkforge's Design Editor inserts a clickable thumbnail with a play button that links to YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, or HTML5 video. Email clients cannot play video inline, so the thumbnail-plus-link approach is the reliable pattern.
Email clients do not play video inline. The Video element in Sparkforge's Design Editor solves that by inserting a clickable thumbnail with a play button overlay — the recipient clicks, and the link opens the actual video in a browser.
Where to Find It
The Video element lives only in the Design Editor and Email Templates inside the Email Builder.
- Sign in to your sub-account.
- Go to Marketing → Emails.
- Click + Create Campaign, choose Blank, then Design Editor. Or open an existing template.
- In the Elements panel on the left, drag Video into the layout.
Configure the Video
Video Type
Choose YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia, or HTML5. The play button styling matches the provider — YouTube renders with the red-and-white play icon, for example.
Video URL
Paste the full URL. The editor fetches the thumbnail automatically based on the selected type. If you select the wrong type (e.g., Vimeo for a YouTube URL), the thumbnail fetch fails and a warning appears.
Video Thumbnail URL
The fetched thumbnail populates here. Override it with your own image using Replace, or strip the default with Remove.
Width and Height
Leave both blank for full-width auto-height behavior. Set values to lock dimensions. With custom width/height, the element aligns left by default — the Align attribute does not apply. Use padding or a 2- or 3-column row to position it.
Padding
Add padding to space the video away from surrounding content.
Common Pitfalls
- Stuck thumbnail. If the editor fails to fetch a new thumbnail, the previous one stays. Replace it manually if you want a different image.
- Wrong provider selected. Mismatched type and URL means no thumbnail. Fix the type and re-paste the URL.
- No inline playback. Every major email client blocks embedded video. The thumbnail-and-link pattern is the only reliable approach.
