Tax-Inclusive vs Tax-Exclusive Pricing in Sparkforge
Set the default tax model under Payments > Settings > Taxes, or override per product when you create or edit it. Tax-exclusive is the default if you skip the global choice.
Sparkforge supports both tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive pricing. Set the default for your account once, then override on individual products if you need to.
Tax-inclusive vs tax-exclusive
- Tax-inclusive: the price the customer sees already contains tax. The total at checkout matches the listed price.
- Tax-exclusive: tax is added on top of the listed price at checkout.
Where to set the global default
Go to Payments > Settings > Taxes and answer "Include tax in prices" with Yes (inclusive) or No (exclusive). If you skip this, Sparkforge defaults to tax-exclusive.
Per-product override
While creating or editing a product, choose one of three options:
- As per Global settings: follows whatever you picked in Payments settings
- Tax Inclusive: overrides global, locks this product to inclusive
- Tax Exclusive: overrides global, locks this product to exclusive
How existing products are handled
Products created before this feature default to As per Global settings. They follow the global toggle until you change them. Once you set a per-product preference, it ignores future global changes.
Where the tax shows up
- Order forms display tax based on the product's setting
- Order details and summary break out tax separately
- Receipts show the tax line item with the appropriate model applied
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I switch tax models after launch?
Yes, but it affects existing invoices and quotes. Review outstanding transactions before flipping the switch.
Will switching affect active subscriptions?
It can. Recurring invoices may need a manual review so the right tax amount is applied going forward.
Can I mix inclusive and exclusive across products?
Yes. Set the global default for the majority of your catalog and override individual products that need the other model.
How are discounts handled with tax-inclusive pricing?
The discount applies to the total (price plus tax). The system recalculates tax based on the discounted total. With tax-exclusive, the discount applies only to the base price.
Can I edit tax on a single invoice?
Yes, you can manually adjust tax on individual invoices. That override won't reflect the automated rules from your pricing model or location settings.
