How to Create Services with Resources and Add-ons in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge Services lets you publish bookable offerings with variations, add-ons, and resources so customers can self-schedule and you can prevent conflicts on rooms, staff, and equipment.

Services is where you define what your business sells as a bookable appointment — coaching sessions, spa treatments, fitness programs, consultations. You manage who provides the service, when it’s available, what optional extras attach, and which shared resources it depends on.

What Services Supports

  • Multi-location scheduling
  • Service variations (different durations or price tiers)
  • Upsells via add-ons
  • Deposit payments
  • Resource management to prevent double-booking rooms or equipment

Key Configuration Options

  • Variations — multiple options under one service, each with its own duration and price.
  • Add-ons — optional extras at checkout that increase the booking price.
  • Resources — limited assets like rooms or chairs that can’t be double-booked.
  • Processing time & buffers — realistic gaps and in-service phases.
  • Staff & availability — assign team members and manage hours.
  • Categories — group services and control booking page order.
  • Private service — hide from public booking; available internally.
  • Custom URL & preview — clean shareable link plus pre-publish preview.
  • Deposits & pricing — collect deposits and configure pricing rules.

Open the Services Panel

  1. Click Calendars in the left nav.
  2. Open Calendar Settings from the top ribbon.
  3. Click the Services tab.

From the panel you get a searchable, sortable list of services with name, duration, price, and assigned staff. The three-dot menu on each row gives you Edit, Duplicate, Delete, and Share. There’s also a View Booking Page link for the customer-facing flow.

Manage Categories

Categories group similar services on the booking page.

  • Click + New Category to add one.
  • Use the three-dot menu to rename or remove a category.
  • Drag categories to reorder — the order shows up on the booking page.

Add-ons

Add-ons let customers add optional extras (oils, treatments, accessories) on top of the main service. Customer-facing add-ons show as checkboxes during booking and add their price and duration to the total. Hidden add-ons are staff-only — useful for upsells your team applies in person.

Open Calendar → Calendar Settings → Services, edit a service, then click the Add-ons tab to view, create, or edit add-ons linked to that service.

Resources

Resources are shared assets — rooms, chairs, stations, tools — that must be available for the service to run. Linking resources prevents double-booking and enforces real capacity.

  • Location — where the resource lives.
  • Capacity — how many appointments or people the resource handles at once.

Example: Room 1 can be used by several services but holds 4 people max per location.

Manage them in the same Service Editor under the Resources tab.

Create a New Service

Step 1: Click + New Service

From the Services Panel, click + New Service in the upper right.

Step 2: Add basic details

  • Service image — from device or media library.
  • Service name — shown to customers.
  • Service color — helps identify it on the calendar.
  • Category — defaults to the default category if none selected.
  • Custom URL — unique booking link for the service.
  • Description — rich text with formatting and links.
  • Private service — hide from public booking pages.
  • Staff members — at least one is required for the service to be bookable.
  • Duration — how long the service lasts.

Click Advanced Settings to configure more.

Step 3: Configure timing

  • Duration — total length.
  • Processing time — split into Initial, Processing, Final phases. Staff are blocked during Initial and Final, but free for other appointments during Processing (think hair color while it sets).
  • Buffer time — prep or cleanup before/after.

Step 4: Set up payments

  • Price — what customers pay.
  • Partial payments — allow a deposit instead of full payment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between a service variation and an add-on?
A variation is an alternative version of the same service — different duration or price tier. An add-on is an optional extra purchased alongside the main service to raise the booking total.
Why won’t my service show up on the booking page?
Most often: no staff is assigned, or the assigned staff has no availability for that service. Both are required for the service to be bookable.
What does Processing Time do?
It splits the service into Initial, Processing, and Final phases. Staff are blocked during Initial and Final, but stay available during Processing — useful for treatments where the client waits but the staff doesn’t need to.
Can I hide a service from the public booking page?
Yes. Toggle Private Service on. The service can still be booked internally through the platform but won’t appear on public booking pages.
How do resources prevent double-booking?
Each resource has a capacity per location. Sparkforge enforces capacity across every service that depends on the resource, so the same room or chair can’t be booked beyond its limit.
