How to Create and Manage Service Categories in Sparkforge
Categories group related services into labeled sections on your booking page. Each category has its own shareable URL, and the Default Category catches anything unassigned.
Categories group related services into labeled sections on your public booking page. A spa might run categories like Massage, Hair, Skin, and Salon, with multiple services under each. Customers scan to the section they want and book.
What categories give you
- Organization: services appear in named sections instead of one long list.
- Direct sharing: every category has its own URL, so you can promote one section.
- Display order control: drag categories to control the order customers see them.
- Built-in fallback: the Default Category catches anything unassigned or moved from a deleted category.
The Default Category
- Every account starts with a Default Category. You can rename it but you can't delete it.
- New services without an assigned category land in the Default Category automatically.
- When you delete a category, its services move to the Default Category — they stay bookable.
Creating a category
- Go to Calendar > Calendar Settings > Services.
- In the left sidebar, click + New Category.
- Enter a Category Name.
- Set the Category URL (slug) — this becomes the direct share link.
- Click Create Category.
Assigning a service to a category
- Click the three-dot menu next to the service.
- Select Edit.
- Choose the category from the Category dropdown.
- Click Save Changes.
Editing a category
- Click the three-dot menu next to the category.
- Select Edit.
- Update the name or slug and save.
Sharing a category
Each category has its own booking link — useful for promotions or campaigns that should only show one type of service.
- Click the three-dot menu next to the category.
- Choose Share Booking.
- Copy the link.
Deleting a category
- Click the three-dot menu and choose Delete.
- Confirm by clicking the red Delete button.
Services in the deleted category move to the Default Category. You can reassign them from there.
Reordering categories
Drag and drop categories in the left sidebar. The new order shows up immediately on the public booking page.
Practical tips
- Use names customers recognize. Massage beats Wellness.
- Rename the Default Category to something specific to your business so orphaned services still look intentional.
- Use category-specific links in promo emails and ads so customers land directly on the relevant services.
