How to Pause and Resume a Subscription in Sparkforge
Open Payments > Subscriptions, click the three-dot menu on a subscription, and pause indefinitely or until a custom date. Set invoices to draft or void during the pause.
The Pause and Resume Subscription feature lets you put a subscription on hold without canceling it. The customer keeps their account history and preferences, and you resume billing when they're ready.
How to pause a subscription
- Go to Payments > Subscriptions.
- Hover over the subscription you want to pause.
- Click the three-dot menu.
- Choose how long to pause (see options below).
Pause options
- Indefinite: no end date. The subscription stays paused until you resume it manually.
- Custom Date: pick the date the subscription resumes automatically. You can still resume earlier with the manual button.
Invoice behavior during the pause
Invoices still generate on each payment due date during the pause. You choose what happens to them:
- Mark as void: stops invoice generation for the pause period entirely
- Draft: invoices stay in draft state, ready to send manually later
How to resume
- Open Payments > Subscriptions.
- Hover over the paused subscription and click the three-dot menu.
- Click Resume and confirm.
The subscription flips from Paused back to active and billing picks up on the next due date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the customer be charged while paused?
No. Pausing stops billing. Invoices either go to void or sit in draft based on your choice.
Can I resume earlier than the custom date I set?
Yes. The custom date is the auto-resume trigger, but the manual Resume button works anytime.
Does the customer lose their data when paused?
No. Account history, preferences, and access settings stay intact. They pick back up where they left off.
Can I pause multiple subscriptions for the same customer?
Pausing applies per subscription. If a customer has more than one, pause each separately from the subscriptions list.
What's the difference between pausing and canceling?
Pausing keeps the subscription record and resumes on demand. Canceling ends the subscription and the customer would need to re-subscribe to come back.
