How to Customize Course Sites with the Theme Customizer

The Theme Customizer for courses gives you control over every visible element of a course site — logo, hero, syllabus, sidebar, lesson pages — without code. Changes preview in real time, and you can save a customized theme as a template.

Open the customizer

1. Go to your Course Outline and click Customize.
2. Click Browse System Templates.
3. Select Neo Classic to use the new customizer.

When you apply Neo Classic from Browse Templates, it shows up as Neo Classic Theme so you can tell it apart from your saved templates.

Save a theme as a template

1. In the theme editor, click Save as Template.
2. Enter a template name in the modal.
3. Click Save. You are redirected to the new template.

Saved templates live under My Templates on the main Customize screen. The empty state in My Templates now provides clearer guidance for first-time users. Activating a template shows a shimmer loading state on the activated theme name while the change applies. The primary CTA in the template editor is Activate Template, and tooltips have been rewritten for clarity.

Header customization

Logo (required)

• Show or hide.
• Type: text or image.
• Click action: redirect to Site Home or Product Home.
• Height: small or medium.
• Placement: top-left or center of the header.

Search bar (required)

• Show or hide.
• Helper text inside the bar.
• Background and text color overrides.

Hero section (required)

• Show or hide.
• Background: image or solid color.
• Overlay: none, or color and opacity.
• Title and description: text, color override, bold or italic, alignment.
• Spacing: full height, medium, or small.
• Start button: color, alignment, content.

Welcome body

Add as many content blocks as you need:

• Image block: upload an image, set a click-through URL.
• Text block: alignment, color override, bold, italic.
• Video block: upload a video to display inline.
• Custom block: mix text, image, CTA button, and video. Use it to point learners to next steps or promotions.

Course syllabus (required)

• Show or hide.
• Type: Categories (organized by category) or Posts (flat list).
• Custom labels for the categories heading, Coming Soon, and Show More.

Course sidebar

Progress bar

• Show or hide, color override, custom text override with info-icon tooltip.

Instructor section

• Show or hide, optional headshot, heading, name, title, bio.

Cross-sell section

• Promote another offer from inside the course product.
• Pick the offer and set CTA text.

Custom blocks

• Add custom text, image, and CTA button content to the sidebar for promotions or announcements.

Lesson page

• Breadcrumb navigation: show or hide.
• Lesson player: background color override, auto-advance on or off.
• Lesson body: text alignment and color override; configure the Mark as Complete button.

Category page

• Categories sidebar progress bar: show or hide, color override.
• Text overrides with tooltip support.
