How to Connect iCloud Calendar to Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Connect iCloud Calendar with an Apple app-specific password from Calendars > Calendar Settings > Connections. iCloud only supports one-way sync, so iCloud events block availability but Sparkforge-created events do not push back.

Connecting iCloud Calendar to Sparkforge keeps your iCloud events in view when checking availability, so external bookings don't double-book over personal events. Note up front: unlike Google and Outlook, iCloud only does one-way sync.

Before you start

  1. Access to the Apple ID tied to the iCloud Calendar you want to connect.
  2. An app-specific password generated from your Apple ID (separate from your normal Apple password). Two-factor authentication on the Apple ID is required.

Step 1: Generate an Apple app-specific password

  1. Sign in at appleid.apple.com.
  2. Under Security, enable two-factor authentication if it isn't already on.
  3. In the App-Specific Passwords section, click Generate Password.
  4. Label it something like Sparkforge iCloud and click Create.
  5. Copy the password and store it somewhere safe — Apple won't show it again.

Step 2: Connect iCloud in Sparkforge

  1. Go to Calendars > Calendar Settings > Connections.
  2. Click Add New.
  3. Pick iCloud Calendar and click Connect.
  4. Enter your Apple ID and the app-specific password you just created.
  5. Click Connect.

Step 3: Configure linked and conflict calendars

Once connected, set the calendar's role:

  • Linked Calendar: new Sparkforge events get pushed to this calendar (writer access required). The linked calendar is automatically also a conflict calendar.
  • Conflict Calendar: events from this calendar block availability in Sparkforge. Only events marked Busy block; Free events are pulled in but availability stays open.

iCloud-specific limitations

  • iCloud only supports one-way sync. Google and Outlook offer two-way sync preferences in Advanced Settings; iCloud doesn't.
  • iCloud events come in as blocked slots. Contacts are not auto-created for guests on those events.
  • Blocked slots created in Sparkforge do not push back to iCloud.
  • Subscribed iCloud calendars (the ones you add by URL) cannot be connected.
  • You can connect multiple iCloud integrations per sub-account, and the same iCloud integration can be reused across sub-accounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does iCloud need an app-specific password?
Apple requires app-specific passwords for any third-party app connecting to iCloud once two-factor authentication is on. Generate one at appleid.apple.com under Security.
Will events I create in Sparkforge show up on my iCloud Calendar?
No. iCloud is one-way only — events flow from iCloud into Sparkforge, but Sparkforge-created events and blocked slots don't push back to iCloud.
Can I connect a shared or subscribed iCloud calendar?
No. Sparkforge can't connect to iCloud calendars subscribed via URL (the public/shared kind). You need a regular calendar on the Apple ID.
Can the same iCloud integration cover multiple sub-accounts?
Yes. You can connect multiple iCloud integrations per sub-account, and you can reuse the same iCloud integration across different sub-accounts.
Do all iCloud events block my availability?
Only events marked Busy block availability. Events marked Free still come into Sparkforge but don't block bookings.
