How to Pay a Sparkforge Agency Subscription with a 3DS Card
3DS cards need cardholder authentication, so they break Sparkforge agency auto-renewals. Reactivate by retrying the failed invoice from Agency Settings and completing the bank's 3DS prompt.
Cards with 3D Secure (3DS) require the cardholder to authenticate every charge. That breaks automatic renewal for agency subscriptions because no one is there to approve the charge in real time. When the auto-renew fails, here is how to bring the account back online.
Reactivate after a failed 3DS auto-renewal
- On the lockout screen, click Reactivate Account. You get temporary access while the payment is still pending.
- Go to Agency Settings → Billing → Payments.
- Under Payments History, find the most recent failed invoice and click Retry.
- Your bank's 3DS pop-up opens. Follow the bank's prompts to authenticate.
Once the payment processes, the agency subscription reactivates automatically.
Avoiding repeat failures
3DS cards will keep failing on auto-renew. Either keep an eye on the renewal date and retry manually each cycle, or switch the subscription to a non-3DS card.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my 3DS card fail on auto-renewal?
3DS requires the cardholder to authenticate the transaction at the bank. Auto-renew happens without anyone present, so the bank declines.
Will retrying the invoice always work?
It works as long as you complete the 3DS pop-up from your bank. If the bank declines authentication, the retry fails too.
Can I avoid this by switching cards?
Yes. A non-3DS card or a card on file the bank has already authenticated for recurring charges will renew without user interaction.
