How to Add Custom Menu Links in Sparkforge
Custom Menu Links let agency admins add their own items to the Sparkforge sidebar, opening as embedded iframes, new tabs, or current-tab redirects, with role-based visibility and dynamic URL params.
Custom Menu Links put your own tools, dashboards, or training resources directly in the Sparkforge sidebar. Agency admins can pin links for the agency view, sub-account view, or both, control visibility by role, and pass the current user or location into the URL as query params.
How custom menu links open
- Embedded page (iframe) — keeps the user inside Sparkforge and renders the linked page in the main panel. Best for tools you want to feel native.
- New browser tab — opens in a fresh tab so the Sparkforge session stays intact.
- Current browser tab — replaces the Sparkforge view entirely. Use only when the user is finishing a task elsewhere.
Permissions and access
Only agency admins can create or manage Custom Menu Links. To grant access to other team members, go to Settings > Team, open the user, and enable Manage Custom Menu Links.
Create a custom menu link
- Open Settings > Custom Menu Links and click Create New.
- Pick an icon, set a title, and paste the URL. The URL must start with
http://orhttps://. - Choose how the link opens (iframe, new tab, current tab).
- Set the Sidebar Preference: agency sidebar, sub-account sidebar, or both. If you pick sub-account, you can target specific sub-accounts.
- Set Role-Based Visibility: All, User, or Admin.
- Save.
Pass user context in the URL
Sparkforge replaces variables in the link URL at click time. Use this to deep-link a user into the right tenant of an external tool:
https://yourtool.com/?user={{user.email}}&location={{location.id}}&cv={{custom_values.example_field_name}}Supported variables
user.first_name,user.last_name,user.name,user.phone,user.emaillocation.id,location.name,location.city,location.state,location.country,location.address,location.email,location.phone,location.postal_code,location.full_address,location.website,location.logo_urllocation_owner.first_name,location_owner.last_name,location_owner.emailcustom_values.{CUSTOM_VALUE_NAME}
Edit, delete, or reorder links
From Settings > Custom Menu Links, click the pencil to edit or the trash to remove a link. To reorder, click Rearrange Custom Menu Links, drag the items into the order you want, and save. Changes take effect immediately for all users.
Tips for keeping the sidebar useful
- Keep the list short. Sidebar real estate is limited and clutter slows your team.
- Use icons and titles that match the destination at a glance.
- Test iframe embedding before rolling out — many sites send
X-Frame-Optionsheaders that block embedding. - Audit the list quarterly and remove links nobody uses.
