How to Add GIFs to Emails in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

In the Sparkforge email builder, drop in an image or video element and upload a GIF up to 10MB. GIFs work as full images or as video thumbnails.

Animated GIFs work in Sparkforge emails. They render in most modern email clients and can pull more attention than static images — useful for product demos, reactions, and promo banners.

Where GIFs work

  • As an image element (the GIF plays inline like a regular picture).
  • As a video thumbnail (a still GIF preview that links to a video).

Add a GIF as an image

  1. Go to Marketing > Email Marketing and open a campaign or template.
  2. Drag the image element into the email.
  3. Edit the image and upload a GIF (max 10MB).

Add a GIF as a video thumbnail

  1. Drag the video element into the email.
  2. Edit the video thumbnail and upload a GIF (max 10MB).

File size matters

10MB is the cap, but stay well under it. Large GIFs slow load times, get clipped by Gmail, and balloon mobile data use. Keep files under 1-2MB when you can.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum GIF size in Sparkforge emails?
10MB per GIF, whether it goes in as an image or as a video thumbnail. Smaller is better for deliverability and load time.
Will GIFs animate in every email client?
Most modern clients (Apple Mail, iOS Mail, Gmail, Yahoo) play GIFs. Older Outlook versions show only the first frame, so make sure that frame works as a static image.
Should I use a GIF as a video thumbnail or as an image?
Use a video thumbnail when you want to link to a video on the click. Use an image when the GIF itself is the content.
Why does Gmail clip my email when I add a GIF?
Gmail clips emails over about 102KB total HTML. Large embedded GIFs push you over fast. Compress aggressively or host the GIF and link to it.
