How to Create and Edit Custom Objects in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Custom Objects are admin-defined record types in Sparkforge — Properties, Pets, Cases, Vehicles, anything beyond Contacts and Opportunities. Create them at Sub-account → Settings → Objects, define fields and associations, then drive object-based workflows. Limit: 10 per location.

Custom Objects let you define brand-new record types in Sparkforge — each with its own fields, associations, and automations. Use them to mirror your real-world processes: a Property record with MLS, Bedrooms, and Status; a Pet record with Breed and Vaccinations. Once created, the object plugs into views, filters, and automations across the platform.

Key benefits

  • Flexibility: any entity, custom fields, custom labels, custom associations.
  • Automation: trigger workflows on object create or update; run object-specific actions.
  • Insights: filter and analyze with SmartLists, List View, and Advanced Filters.
  • Governance: only admins can edit object definitions.
  • Plan access: available on all plans, up to 10 Custom Objects per location.

Field types and unique fields

  • Supported unique field types: Single Line Text, Multi Line Text, Number, Phone.
  • Limit: up to 10 unique fields per object.
  • Scope: uniqueness enforced across the sub-account and across every entry point — UI, Workflows, Forms, API.
  • Irreversible: downgrading a unique field to non-unique is permanent. You cannot re-enable uniqueness later.

Associations and labels

  • Define many-to-many or one-to-many links between objects (e.g., Opportunity ↔ Property).
  • Use associations in SmartLists, filters, and automations.
  • Up to 10 unique labels per object pair ("Buyer Of," "Listed On," etc.).
  • Opportunities support flexible associations to Custom Objects for unified pipeline context.

Step-by-step setup

Step 1 — Create the object

  1. Go to Sub-account → Settings → Objects.
  2. Click Add Custom Object.

Step 2 — Add object details

  1. Enter the Singular name (e.g., Pet).
  2. Enter the Plural name (e.g., Pets).
  3. Review the Internal Name and Primary field. Adjust the internal name during creation by clicking </>.
  4. Provide a label for the Primary display field (e.g., Pet Name, Pet ID).
  5. Pick an icon and add a description so the team understands the object's purpose.
  6. Click Create Custom Object.

Step 3 — Edit object details

The object appears on the Objects page after creation. Click it to open and adjust details, fields, or associations.

Optional — Delete a Custom Object

  1. Click the … menu next to the object's name.
  2. Choose Delete.
  3. Type DELETE to confirm.

Warning: Deletion permanently removes the object plus every record, association, workflow, and custom field tied to it. There is no recovery.

Using Custom Objects in workflows

Object-based workflows run on a Custom Object record (not just a Contact). Create one to automate behavior whenever a Custom Object record is created, updated, or modified externally.
