By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Open a course lesson, click Upload Subtitle next to the video, choose an .srt file and language, and save. Use the built-in editor for fixes.

Sparkforge's Course Builder supports closed captions and subtitles for video lessons. Upload .srt files, assign a language, and edit them visually or in raw mode — all inside the platform.

Why caption your courses

  • Reach learners who speak different languages
  • Meet accessibility requirements for users with hearing impairments
  • Improve retention through visual reinforcement
  • Catch and fix subtitle errors in real time

Upload subtitles

  1. Go to Sites > Courses and open the course you want to edit.
  2. Click a Lesson that contains a video.
  3. Find the Upload Subtitles option next to the video player.
  4. Click Upload Subtitle and pick an .srt file from your device.
  5. Select the appropriate language from the dropdown.
  6. Click Save.

Edit subtitles in the visual editor

After uploading, click Edit Subtitles next to the file:

  • Subtitles display in a structured list with timestamps and text.
  • Click any timestamp to jump to that moment in the video.
  • Warning icons flag overlapping lines or gaps. Hover for the issue description.
  • Click directly into a line to edit, then Save Changes.

Edit subtitles in raw mode

Raw Mode gives you direct access to the .srt file structure for precise control:

  1. In the Subtitle Editor, click Switch to Raw Mode.
  2. Edit the file using standard .srt syntax (timestamps followed by text).
  3. Review syntax carefully — formatting errors break playback.
  4. Click Save.

Multiple languages

Upload separate .srt files for each language. Learners pick their preferred subtitle language from the player controls during playback.

Frequently Asked Questions

What subtitle formats does Sparkforge support?
Only .srt files at this time. Convert other formats (VTT, SBV, SUB) to .srt before uploading.
Can I upload subtitles in multiple languages?
Yes. Upload one .srt file per language and assign each to its language code. Viewers select their preferred language from the player.
Do subtitles automatically sync to the video?
They sync based on the timestamps in the .srt file. Use the visual editor to nudge timing if anything is off.
Is Raw Mode required for editing?
No. The visual editor handles most edits. Raw Mode is there when you need precision or want to fix .srt structure directly.
What happens if my .srt file has errors?
The editor flags overlapping lines and missing timestamps with warning icons. Fix them in the editor before saving.
