A/B Testing in Sparkforge Email Campaigns

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge A/B testing sends up to six email variations to part of your audience, then auto-sends the winner (by open or click rate) to everyone else.

A/B testing in Sparkforge compares email variations against each other and lets the data pick the winner. Test subject lines or content across up to six variations.

How it works

  1. A slice of your audience receives the variations.
  2. Sparkforge tracks engagement (open or click rate) over the test duration.
  3. The winning variation is sent automatically to the remaining recipients.

Why run A/B tests

  • Engagement: find the version that gets more opens or clicks
  • Data over guesswork: decisions based on real recipient behavior
  • Deliverability: refine subject lines that land in the inbox
  • Conversions: compound small wins across your sends

Set up an A/B test

  1. Open your campaign in the Email Builder.
  2. Toggle Enable A/B Testing in the left panel.
  3. Choose the test type:
    • Email Subject — test different subject lines
    • Email Content — test different copy, images, or buttons
  4. Set the test duration (e.g., 4 hours, 8 hours).
  5. Choose the number of variations (up to 6).
  6. Adjust the test size with the slider. Example: with two variations, send each to 25% of your list, reserve 50% for the winner.
  7. Add your subject or content variations. Use Content AI for quick generation if you want a starting point.
  8. Pick the winning criteria:
    • Unique Open Rate for subject line tests
    • Unique Click Rate for content tests
  9. Click Send or Schedule.

Tips for cleaner results

  • Test one variable at a time. Multiple changes muddy the winner.
  • Give the test enough time. Most opens happen in the first few hours, but click data often needs longer.
  • Match the winning criteria to the test type. Open rate for subjects, click rate for content.
  • Keep test sizes meaningful. Tiny lists won't produce a confident winner.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many variations can I test?
Up to six per campaign.
Should I test subject lines or content?
Test the variable that matches your goal. Subject line tests improve opens. Content tests improve clicks and conversions.
How long should the test run?
Set a duration that gives the variations a fair chance. Subject line tests can run a few hours; content tests usually need longer to gather click data.
Can Content AI help me write variations?
Yes. Content AI generates subject lines or content variations directly inside the A/B testing flow.
Do small lists produce reliable winners?
Not always. The smaller the list, the more variation comes from noise. Larger lists give cleaner results.
