How to Remove an Owner from an Opportunity with Sparkforge Workflows
Remove Owner from Opportunity unassigns the current owner of a deal, leaving it ownerless until something else assigns it. It needs an opportunity in context — from a trigger or a Find Opportunity step.
The Remove Owner from Opportunity action clears the owner of an existing deal. Use it when redistributing leads, resetting closed deals, or staging opportunities for reassignment.
What happens when it runs
The opportunity becomes ownerless. If your account syncs contact and opportunity owners in Opportunity Settings, the contact owner may also be cleared. If owners are decoupled, only the opportunity owner is touched.
If no opportunity is in context — meaning the workflow wasn't triggered by an opportunity and no Find Opportunity step ran first — the action is skipped silently.
Configuration fields
| Field | What it does | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Action Name | Internal label for the step. | Yes |
| Opportunity to Unassign | The opportunity from the trigger or from a preceding Find Opportunity. Find Opportunity wins if both exist. | Auto-resolved |
Edge cases
- No opportunity in context: action is skipped.
- Multiple Find Opportunity matches: only one record (earliest or latest, per Find Opportunity config) is affected.
- Already unassigned: nothing changes. No error.
Example: clear owner when a deal closes
- Trigger: Opportunity status changes to Closed.
- Action: Remove Owner from Opportunity, named Unassign Closed Deal.
The closed opportunity is unassigned. With owner sync enabled, the contact owner clears too — useful when you reassign closed accounts to a customer success queue.
