How to Add Followers to an Opportunity with Sparkforge Workflows

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Add Follower(s) to Opportunity attaches one or more users to a deal as followers, so they get visibility and updates without becoming the owner. Duplicates are auto-prevented.

The Add Follower(s) to Opportunity action attaches users to an existing deal as followers. Followers see updates and changes on the opportunity but don't take ownership. Use it when stakeholders need visibility without responsibility.

What it does

You select one or more users. The workflow adds each one to the opportunity's follower list. If a user is already a follower or the assigned owner, the system skips them — no duplicates.

Like other opportunity actions, this needs an opportunity in context: either from an opportunity-based trigger or from a preceding Find Opportunity step.

Configuration fields

FieldWhat it doesRequired
Action NameInternal label for the step.Yes
FollowersOne or more users to add. Multi-select dropdown of account users.Yes

Edge cases

  • No opportunity in context: action is skipped silently.
  • Multiple Find Opportunity matches: only one record (earliest or latest) is updated.
  • User already follows or owns the deal: they aren't added again.

Example: notify stakeholders on high-value deals

  1. Trigger: opportunity created or updated meets your criteria.
  2. Action: Find Opportunity where Opportunity Value > 10000 and Status is Open.
  3. Action: Add Follower(s) to Opportunity. Followers: Sales Manager, Product Specialist.

Both users gain visibility into the deal so they can stay aligned without owning it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a follower and an owner?
The owner is responsible for the deal and shows up in reports as the assigned user. Followers get visibility and updates but don't drive the deal — useful for managers, specialists, or cross-team observers.
Will adding the same user twice create duplicates?
No. The system blocks duplicate followers. If the user already follows or owns the opportunity, they're skipped silently.
Does this action work without a Find Opportunity step?
Only if the workflow trigger itself is opportunity-based (like Opportunity Status Changed). For other triggers, add a Find Opportunity step first or the action will skip.
Can I add followers in bulk to multiple opportunities at once?
Not from a single action. Even with Find Opportunity matching multiple records, only one opportunity gets updated per workflow run.
