Facebook Interactive Messenger Workflow Action in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The Facebook Interactive Messenger workflow action sends automated Messenger DMs with buttons, quick replies, and attachments. Use it after a Facebook comment or message trigger inside Sparkforge's workflow builder.

The Facebook Interactive Messenger action lets a Sparkforge workflow send a Messenger DM with interactive elements — buttons, quick replies, attachments, and trigger links — instead of a plain text reply.

Where to find it

Automation > Workflows > Workflow Builder > Actions > Communication > Facebook Interactive Messenger.

It only appears when the workflow uses a Facebook comment or message trigger.

Reply types

  • Reply to Comment via DM: use when the trigger is a new comment and you want to move the conversation into Messenger.
  • Reply to DM: use when you're answering an inbound Messenger message.

Message components

  • Templates: reusable Snippets from Marketing > Snippets.
  • Body: the message editor.
  • Custom Values: dynamic fields from Settings > Custom Values.
  • Trigger Links: insert links from Marketing > Trigger Links.
  • Add Attachment: upload a file from your computer.
  • Add file through URL: paste a file URL.
  • Add New Button: up to 3 interactive buttons per message.
  • Add Quick Reply: up to 13 quick replies per message.
  • Wait Step: set the time before the workflow moves on to the default branch.

Buttons vs. Quick Replies

Both create branches in the workflow. They behave differently in Messenger:

  • Buttons stay visible after a tap. Use them for persistent actions like opening a URL or dialing a number. Maximum 3 per message.
  • Quick Replies disappear after a tap. Use them when you want a focused, one-shot response. Maximum 13 per message.

On Facebook you can mix buttons, quick replies, and files in a single action. (Instagram is stricter — quick replies require no attachment.)

Button actions

  • Open Website: opens the URL in a new tab without ending the conversation.
  • Call Number: opens the dialer on tap.
  • Perform Action: creates a workflow branch with no external side effect.

Meta's 24-hour messaging rule

Outbound Messenger messages can only deliver within 24 hours of the contact's last interaction with your Facebook Page. If the contact goes quiet beyond that window, the action may not send.

Frequently Asked Questions

What triggers does Facebook Interactive Messenger work with?
It only works after a Facebook comment trigger or a Facebook message trigger. With any other trigger, the action stays grayed out.
How many buttons and quick replies can I add to one message?
Up to 3 buttons and up to 13 quick replies per Facebook Interactive Messenger action.
What's the difference between a button and a quick reply?
Buttons remain visible after the user taps them and support actions like opening a URL or dialing a number. Quick replies disappear after one tap and keep the chat focused.
Why would my message not deliver?
Meta enforces a 24-hour messaging window. If more than 24 hours have passed since the contact's last interaction with your Page, the message may be blocked.
Can I send an attachment in the same step as buttons?
Yes. On Facebook you can combine buttons, quick replies, and a file or URL attachment in one action.
