The Instagram Interactive Messenger action automates DM conversations with buttons or quick replies. Pair it with an Instagram comment or DM trigger inside Sparkforge's workflow builder.

The Instagram Interactive Messenger workflow action automates DM responses to Instagram comments and messages. Use it to move a public commenter into a private conversation, deliver lead magnets, or qualify prospects without a human in the loop.

What it does

Send an automated, interactive DM in response to a comment or DM. The message can include templates, custom values, trigger links, attachments, and either buttons or quick replies.

Key uses

  • Auto-reply to comments and convert them into DM conversations.
  • Drive followers to a website, lead magnet, or booking link via interactive taps.
  • Personalize messages with custom values and Snippets.
  • Move public engagement into private nurture flows.

How to configure the action

  1. Open the Workflow Builder. Go to Automation > Workflows and create or open a workflow.
  2. Add an Instagram trigger. Choose Instagram Comment on Post or Customer Reply (Instagram). The action stays unavailable without one of these triggers.
  3. Place the action. On the canvas, click + and pick Actions > Communication > Instagram Interactive Messenger.
  4. Name the step. Use a descriptive label like IG DM — Send Lead Magnet Prompt.
  5. Pick a Reply Type. Reply to Comment via DM when the trigger is a new comment, or Reply to DM when responding to an inbound DM.
  6. (Optional) Pull a template. Select a Snippet from Marketing > Snippets to reuse approved copy.
  7. Build the message body. Add personalization with Custom Values and Trigger Links.
  8. Attach a file from your device or via URL.
  9. Add buttons or quick replies to guide the next step.
  10. Set a Wait Step if needed before continuing the workflow.

Buttons vs. quick replies on Instagram

Instagram is stricter than Facebook here:

  • You can use buttons or quick replies in a message — not both at the same time.
  • Quick replies cannot be combined with attachments in the same message.

Best practices

  • Lead with the value, not the ask. The first DM should deliver something useful.
  • Keep buttons to two or three clear options.
  • Use Snippets for compliance-checked copy you reuse across campaigns.
  • Test from a second Instagram account before publishing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find the Instagram Interactive Messenger action?
Inside a workflow that already has an Instagram trigger: + on the canvas > Actions > Communication > Instagram Interactive Messenger.
Why is the action grayed out?
It only enables when the workflow uses an Instagram Comment on Post trigger or a Customer Reply (Instagram) trigger. Add one of those first.
Can I use buttons and quick replies in the same Instagram message?
No. On Instagram you pick one or the other per message. Quick replies also can't ride alongside an attachment.
What's a good Reply Type for a comment-to-DM funnel?
Use Reply to Comment via DM. It moves the public commenter into a private message thread.
Do Snippets help speed up the build?
Yes. Save reusable copy in Marketing > Snippets and pull it via Templates inside the action.
