Update Associated Company Action in Workflows

The Update Associated Company action updates the Company linked to a Contact inside a Contact-based workflow. Use it to keep company data current as contact info changes or as new data arrives through webhooks or forms.

If the contact is not linked to a company, the action is skipped automatically.

What this action does

• Updates fields on the Company associated with the Contact triggering the workflow.
• Maps workflow variables, contact fields, or webhook data to company fields (Company Name, Domain, Industry, etc.).
• Keeps contact and company records in sync without manual edits.

This action only updates existing company records. It does not create new companies — use Create Associated Company for that.

Configure the action

Field mapping

Map each company field you want to update to workflow data or a static value. Examples:

• Company Name → {{contact.company_name}}
• Industry → {{inboundWebhookRequest.body.industry}}
• Domain → {{contact.email}} (extract domain automatically)

Dynamic value sources

• Contact fields (company_name, email, city).
• Inbound Webhook payloads (e.g. {{inboundWebhookRequest.body.domain}}).
• Fixed text values such as Active Client.

Add multiple fields

Use + Add Field to update several company properties in one action. Each field-value pair is one update operation.

Save

Click Save Action. When the workflow runs, the associated company record is updated with the configured values.

Edge cases

• Available only in Contact-based workflows.
• Cannot create new companies — use Create Associated Company.
• If the contact has no associated company, the action is skipped.

Example: update company address when a contact moves

Trigger: Contact Changed → Address field updated

Action: Update Associated Company

Field mappings:

• Address → {{contact.address}}
• City → {{contact.city}}
• State → {{contact.state}}

The contact updates their address, the workflow fires, and the linked company's address fields update automatically.
