Toll-Free Number Verification for Sparkforge Phone (US/Canada)

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

All US and Canada toll-free numbers used for SMS in Sparkforge Phone must be verified or messages get blocked. Submit business details, opt-in proof, and sample messages through Settings > Phone Numbers > Manage Numbers; approval typically takes 4-6 weeks but can be days.

US and Canada toll-free numbers used for texting must be verified before SMS or MMS will deliver reliably. Unverified numbers are subject to filtering and may be blocked entirely. Verification is for messaging only and does not affect calling.

Blocked messages return Error 30032 or Error 30007.

What toll-free verification is

Toll-free numbers (800, 888, 877, 866, 855, 844, 833) are popular for business messaging. Verification registers your number and use case with carriers so they treat you as a legitimate sender. The result: higher deliverability, fewer carrier filters, and consistent inbox placement.

Before you start

Have these ready:

  • Legal business name (matches government and legal documents)
  • Business website (or public social media link if no site)
  • Business address
  • Detailed use case description
  • At least 2 sample message templates
  • Opt-in method used to collect recipient permission (web form, text keyword, verbal, paper, QR code)

Step 1: Buy a toll-free number

If you do not yet have one, follow the toll-free purchase guide for Sparkforge Phone first.

Step 2: Submit the verification form

  1. Go to Settings > Phone Numbers > Manage Numbers in the sub-account.
  2. Click the Verification Required alert next to the toll-free number.
  3. Fill in business and contact information, location, messaging use case, and sample messages.

As of May 2025, EIN or business registration number is no longer required for SMS verification.

Legal entity name

Use the end business the customer interacts with. Do not list the ISV unless the ISV is the sole content creator, sending on its own behalf, with branding under the ISV's name.

Approved example: John's Coffee Shop

Website URL

Public website or social media of the end business. Social links are accepted if the business has no formal site and the social pages are public.

Rejected examples:

  • URL is not live
  • URL is password-protected or private
  • Website carries ISV or aggregator branding instead of the end business

Contact and location

Provide the customer point of contact (first name, last name, email, country code, phone) and the physical address of the end business.

Opt-In methods

The opt-in method must match the submitted use case. Marketing campaigns require express, active consent.

1. Verbal opt-in

Recorded during a phone call or IVR. Sample IVR script: "As part of our service we can send you automated monthly text alerts regarding account payment activity. We will send two messages per month. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to opt out. Reply yes or no to confirm."

2. Web form opt-in

An embedded form on the end business's site collects the phone number and consent. Requirements:

  • Opt-in checkbox is selectable, never pre-checked, and not required for form submission.
  • Disclaimer next to the checkbox names the program, sender, fee disclosure ("Message and data rates may apply"), frequency ("Message frequency varies"), HELP and STOP instructions, and links to Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
  • Marketing consent is on a separate checkbox from non-marketing consent.
  • Privacy Policy and Terms links live in the footer, not inside the checkbox label.

Sample disclaimer: "I consent to receive SMS notifications and alerts from COMPANY NAME. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Text HELP to (XXX) XXX-XXXX for assistance. Reply STOP to unsubscribe at any time."

If the form is behind a login or not yet published, host a screenshot on a publicly accessible URL (Google Drive, OneDrive, or the sub-account Media Storage Library) and submit that link.

3. Paper form opt-in

A physical form collects phone number and consent. Host a screenshot of the form publicly and submit the URL.

4. Text message opt-in

Host a screenshot of the campaign collateral on a public URL and submit it along with the website URL.

5. Mobile QR code opt-in

QR code links to either a templated SMS opt-in (for example, an iMessage prefilled message) or to a web form that follows all web form opt-in rules above.

Use case category and description

Select every applicable use case category. If marketing is involved, the Marketing checkbox must be selected — otherwise verification will fail.

Approved description: "This number is used to send promotional offers to customers of John's Coffee Shop who have opted in through our website or POS system."

Rejected description: "Marketing" — too vague.

Sample messages

Provide at least two sample messages that match the use case. Each should include a clear message, business name, opt-out language, and personalization where relevant.

Approved: "Thank you for being a loyal customer of John's Coffee Shop. Enjoy 10% off your next purchase. Reply STOP to opt out."

Rejected: "Your appointment is today at 10:00 AM" — missing business name, opt-out, and context.

Submit and monitor status

Check the Terms of Service box and click Send Information for Verification. If KYC is not complete, finish that next.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my toll-free number is rejected and I cannot resubmit?
Contact support with the subject "Toll-Free Verification Rejection Appeal for [Business Name or Number]." Include any documentation that addresses the rejection reason.
Can I send messages while verification is pending?
Yes, but carriers may filter or block traffic until the number is verified. Submit early so pending status does not delay launches.
Can I verify multiple toll-free numbers at once?
Each toll-free number must be submitted individually. There is no bulk verification flow.
Is verification required for small businesses?
Yes. All businesses sending SMS from toll-free numbers in the US or Canada must comply, regardless of size.
Do I need to be a US business to register a US toll-free number?
No. Business addresses outside the US are accepted as long as the legal entity, website, and contact information match.
Will I be charged for failed SMS during verification?
Sparkforge does not charge if an internal error occurs before sending. Once a delivery is attempted, the message is billable even if it does not deliver.
