Phone Number Configuration Options in Sparkforge
Each Sparkforge number has its own settings for forwarding, caller ID, call connect, whisper messages, recording, timeouts, and multi-user ring. Open Settings > Phone System and click Edit Configuration on the number.
Every phone number in your Sparkforge sub-account has its own configuration. Settings control how inbound calls route, what caller ID outbound calls show, when calls hit voicemail, and whether recordings or whisper messages play. Tuning these correctly is what makes call routing, lead handling, and missed-call automation work reliably.
Where to find the settings
- Open Settings > Phone System from your sub-account.
- Find the number under Manage Numbers.
- Click the three dots next to it and choose Edit Configuration.

Forwarding and caller ID
Pass Called Number As Caller ID
By default, your phone shows the caller's number. Turn this on if you want to see the number that was originally dialed instead — useful when one number forwards to another and you want to know which line the lead came in on.
Forward Calls To
Route incoming calls to any external number. When someone calls Number A, they're forwarded to Number B.
Use Verified Number as Caller ID
For outbound calls, show your verified business number to the recipient. Only verified numbers can use this option.
Call Connect and whisper messages
Call Connect plays a prompt to the recipient and waits for a keypress before connecting. This separates real human answers from voicemail pickups, which is essential for missed-call text-back automation.
Whisper Message is the text-to-speech message played before connect. Example: "Call from Sparkforge — press a key to connect." TTS is billed at $0.00084 per 100 characters.
Call recording
Enable Call Recording for compliance, training, or QA. Add a Play Call Recording Message like "This call may be recorded for quality purposes" — many U.S. states require it.
Recording costs $0.0025/min, and storage is $0.0005/min/month.
Inbound and outbound timeouts
Incoming Call Timeout
- Personal voicemail: leave blank or set to ~60s.
- CRM voicemail after a brief ring: 20s.
- Direct to CRM voicemail: 1–4s.
Upload a voicemail recording (MP3 or WAV) under Business Info or in the assigned user's profile.
Outgoing Call Timeout
A shorter timeout (around 30s) avoids hitting customer voicemails — ideal for lead-churn campaigns.
Sparkforge plays two tones during outbound calls: a connecting tone while the carrier is being reached, and a ringback tone only after the device confirms it's ringing. If the carrier can't be reached, the call ends without phantom ringing.
Ring multiple users
Ring Incoming Calls to Selected Users rings up to 7 team members simultaneously until someone answers. Useful for shared lines.
