Timezone Adaptation in Sparkforge Countdown Timers

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Enable Adapt to Contact Time Zone on a countdown timer and Sparkforge will end it at the right local time for each viewer. Emails use contact timezone, funnels and websites use IP detection, with the creator's timezone as fallback.

Timezone Adaptation lets a Sparkforge countdown timer end at the correct local moment for each viewer across emails, funnels, and websites. Set a Christmas timer for December 25 and a viewer in India sees it end at 25 Dec IST while a viewer in New York sees it end at 25 Dec EST, with no extra setup.

Why it matters

  • Accurate deadlines for promotions in every region.
  • Higher trust on time-bound campaigns.
  • Consistent experience across distributed audiences.

How the timezone hierarchy works

Emails

Emails rely on contact-level data.

ScenarioWhat happens
Contact's timezone is setEnd time converts to the contact's timezone.
Contact's timezone is not setThe original timezone selected when creating the timer is used as fallback.

Funnels and websites

Web experiences use real-time visitor context.

ScenarioWhat happens
Visitor lands on a pageTimer adapts using IP-detected timezone.
IP detection failsTimer falls back to the creator's selected timezone.

Note: for dynamic timers in funnels reached via an email link, the email logic applies for timezone adaptation.

How to enable it

  1. Open or create a countdown timer.
  2. Set the End Date and Time.
  3. Below the timezone dropdown, check Adapt to Contact Time Zone.

The system then applies the correct logic per channel automatically. The timezone dropdown stays visible because it's the fallback when contact or IP data is missing.

Recurring timers

For recurring countdown timers, the start time adapts to each viewer's local timezone, and the end time is calculated from the recurrence rules. Each cycle stays localized.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if a contact has no timezone on file?
The timer falls back to the timezone you selected when creating it. The dropdown stays visible specifically so the fallback is explicit.
How do recurring timers handle timezones?
The start time adapts to each viewer's local timezone, and the end time is auto-calculated from the recurrence rules. Each cycle is localized per viewer.
Does enabling adaptation hide the timezone selector?
No. The dropdown is preserved so the fallback timezone is clear. Adaptation simply layers on top of it for contacts and visitors with available data.
What if IP detection fails for a website visitor?
If the visitor's IP cannot be resolved to a timezone, the timer uses the creator's selected timezone as a fallback.
Which timezone wins when an email links to a funnel?
Email logic wins. If the funnel is reached via an email click, the timer uses the contact's timezone (or fallback) instead of IP detection.
