How to Build Dynamic Countdown Timers in Sparkforge Emails

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Dynamic countdown timers in Sparkforge personalize the countdown for each contact based on when they receive or open the email. Combine a duration with an optional fixed end time to keep urgency real per recipient.

The Sparkforge dynamic countdown timer personalizes the countdown for each contact based on when they receive or open your email. Each recipient sees a timer that starts at their interaction, not at a single shared deadline.

What a dynamic timer does

A dynamic timer adjusts per recipient. A static timer shows the same countdown to everyone. With a dynamic timer, the countdown starts the moment a contact opens or receives the email.

Examples

Duration-only (no end time)

Duration: 2 hours. Trigger: Email Opened.

  • Contact A opens at 2 PM → timer runs 2 PM to 4 PM.
  • Contact B opens at 5 PM → timer runs 5 PM to 7 PM.

Duration with a fixed end time

Duration: 2 hours. End time: 12 AM. Trigger: Email Opened.

  • Contact A opens at 2 PM → timer runs 2 PM to 12 AM.
  • Contact B opens at 5 PM → timer runs 5 PM to 12 AM.

Common use cases

Birthday offer (Email Sent trigger)

Send a birthday discount valid until midnight. Email sent at 11:59 PM the prior day, 24-hour duration, ends at 12:00 AM. Each recipient gets a full day to redeem.

Sale window (Email Opened trigger)

Offer at least 2 hours after open. Duration 2 hours minimum, ends at 11 PM the same day. Contact A opens at 6 PM → ends 11 PM. Contact B opens at 10 PM → ends 11 PM the next day.

Why use "Ends at Time"

If a contact opens at 11:07 PM with a 2-hour duration, the timer would normally end at 1:07 AM — which feels artificial. Setting an end time of 12 AM keeps the countdown realistic across all recipients.

How to build one

  1. Go to Timers and click Create New Timer.
  2. Choose Dynamic Timer.
  3. Set the duration (for example, 2 hours) and an optional end time (for example, 12 PM). Watch the helper text to confirm the behavior.
  4. Customize the design to match your email style.
  5. Define the active and expired link destinations.
  6. Save the timer and use it in emails or funnels, or copy the embed code for custom templates.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between a static and dynamic countdown timer?
A static timer shows the same end time to every recipient. A dynamic timer starts counting down per recipient based on when they open or receive the email.
Can I trigger the dynamic timer on email send instead of open?
Yes. The trigger can be set to Email Sent or Email Opened, depending on whether the timer should start at delivery or at open.
What does the "Ends at Time" option do?
It caps the countdown at a fixed real-world time. The shorter of the duration or the end time wins, which keeps the urgency consistent across recipients.
Can I customize the look of the timer?
Yes. The timer designer lets you adjust styling to match your email template.
Where can I use the timer once it is built?
Inside Sparkforge emails and funnels, or anywhere you can paste the embed code.
