Use the Remove Tags bulk action on the Contacts page to strip tags from many contacts at once. Pick specific tags or check Remove all tags to clear everything in one shot.

The Remove Tags bulk action lets you clean up contact segmentation across many records at once. Use it when campaigns end, segments get reorganized, or stale tags clutter the CRM.

When bulk tag removal helps

  • Cleaning up after a campaign ends.
  • Restructuring segments without touching contact data.
  • Killing duplicate or overlapping tags that confuse automations.
  • Resetting a group of contacts before applying a new tagging scheme.

How to remove tags in bulk

  1. Open the Contacts tab from the left navigation.
  2. Use the checkboxes to select the contacts you want to update. Filter first if you need a specific segment.
  3. Click the Remove Tags icon in the top action bar.
  4. Enter an Action Name so you can find it later in Bulk Actions.
  5. Choose your removal mode:
    • Check Remove all tags to clear every tag from those contacts.
    • Or pick specific tags from the Tags dropdown to remove only those.
  6. Click Remove Tags to start the action.
  7. Click Check Progress to track status in real time.

Reviewing the results

The Bulk Actions dashboard logs every tag removal task with the action name, start time, completion time, and a Show Stats link for contact-level success counts.

Important guardrails

  • Removing tags does not delete contact data — only the tag associations are touched.
  • Bulk removals cannot be undone with one click. To restore tags, run an Add Tags bulk action.
  • If you only want to remove specific tags, do not check Remove all tags.
