Missed Call WhatsApp Back in Sparkforge: Setup Guide
Missed Call WhatsApp Back sends an automatic WhatsApp message when an inbound call goes unanswered. Toggle it on under Settings, customize the message with variables, and the system handles the rest.
Missed Call WhatsApp Back automatically sends a WhatsApp message when an inbound call is marked missed. It runs from the phone system settings, so you do not have to build a workflow or trigger.
What it does
When a call to a connected number goes unanswered, Sparkforge fires a WhatsApp message to the caller from the same number. The message can include the business name, a booking link, and other variables, so the contact gets a quick acknowledgment and a next step.
Why use WhatsApp instead of SMS
- Higher open and reply rates in regions where WhatsApp is the default channel.
- Rich formatting and emoji render natively.
- No carrier filtering for marketing-style content.
Prerequisites
- A WhatsApp-enabled number connected to the sub-account and in good standing.
- Permission to access Settings → Phone System.
- Contacts that are reachable on WhatsApp. If the contact is not on WhatsApp, the message will not deliver.
- Documented consent to message the contact on WhatsApp.
Set it up
- Go to Settings → Phone System → Voice → Voicemail and Missed Call TextBack → Missed Call Textback.
- Toggle Missed Call WhatsApp Back on.
- Click Customize and review the prefilled message.
- Insert variables as needed and save.
- Place a test call from another number to confirm the WhatsApp message sends and renders correctly.
Default message and variables
The prefilled message is: Hi this is {{location.name}}, I saw that we just missed your call. How can I help?
You edit the body inside the Missed Call Textback area, not under WhatsApp Templates. Common variables:
{agent_name}— the assigned agent's name.{booking_link}— the scheduling link configured for the location.{business_hours}— a readable summary of open hours.{location_name}or{{location.name}}— the location's display name.
Troubleshooting
- No message sent: confirm WhatsApp is connected for the sending number and the toggle is on.
- Variables show as raw tokens: verify variable syntax and that the underlying value exists.
- Duplicate messages: check for an SMS Textback or workflow firing on the same missed call.
- Contact did not receive: confirm the contact uses WhatsApp, check number formatting and country code, and verify they have not opted out.
- After-hours sends: turn the toggle off during off hours, or use call routing to control when calls become missed.
