Send Interactive WhatsApp Messages from Sparkforge Workflows

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

The WhatsApp Interactive Messages action in Sparkforge automation sends reply buttons, list menus, location cards, contact cards, and CTA URL buttons. The 24-hour Customer Service Window must be open before sending.

Sparkforge supports interactive WhatsApp messages directly inside the automation module. The WhatsApp Interactive Messages action sends rich message types that customers can tap instead of typing replies.

Interactive Message Types

  • Quick Reply Buttons — Up to 3 tappable buttons.
  • Location Messages — A map card with latitude and longitude.
  • Contact Messages — Rich contact cards with name, phone, address, and email.
  • List Messages — Structured menus with sections and rows.
  • Visit Website Button — A clean tappable URL button.

Why Interactive Messages

  • Higher reply rates because answering is one tap instead of typing.
  • Cleaner CRM data from standardized choices.
  • Lower messaging cost when sent inside the free 24-hour window.
  • More conversions through direct calls-to-action.
  • Fewer mistakes from predefined options.

Prerequisite: 24-Hour Customer Service Window

Interactive messages can only be sent while the 24-hour WhatsApp Customer Service Window is open. The window opens when a customer sends your business a WhatsApp message and stays open for 24 hours of unlimited free messaging.

Option 1: Customer Replied Trigger

Set up a workflow with the Customer Replied trigger and filter Reply Channel = WhatsApp. The workflow only fires when a customer messages you, so the window is always open.

Option 2: Customer Service Window Check Action

Add the WhatsApp: Customer Service Window Check action before your interactive message. Pick the conversation phone number and configure two branches: Open and Closed. If closed, send a Marketing or Utility Template message first to reopen the conversation.

Add the Interactive Messages Action

  1. Open your workflow.
  2. Click Add Action (+).
  3. Select WhatsApp Interactive Messages.
  4. Pick the FROM PHONE NUMBER and choose the INTERACTIVE MESSAGE TYPE.

Configure Quick Reply Buttons

Set INTERACTIVE MESSAGE TYPE = Quick Reply Buttons and fill in:

  • Input for Button Message (the main text)
  • BUTTON COUNT (up to 3)
  • HEADER TYPE (Text, Image, Video, or Document)
  • HEADER TEXT or MEDIA URL
  • BODY (required)
  • FOOTER (optional)
  • TIMEOUT UNIT and VALUE
  • Button Titles for each button

Keep the body concise so buttons stay visible without scrolling.

Configure Location Messages

Set INTERACTIVE MESSAGE TYPE = Location and fill in:

  • LOCATION NAME
  • ADDRESS
  • LATITUDE
  • LONGITUDE

Verify coordinates match the address before saving.

Configure Contact Messages

Set INTERACTIVE MESSAGE TYPE = Contact and fill in:

  • FIRST NAME and LAST NAME (required)
  • PHONE NUMBER and PHONE TYPE (Work, Mobile, Home)
  • EMAIL ADDRESS and EMAIL TYPE (optional)

Each contact message supports one contact card. Send multiple actions for multiple cards.

Configure List Messages

Set INTERACTIVE MESSAGE TYPE = List and fill in:

  • Input for Button Message (the prompt)
  • SECTION COUNT
  • HEADER TEXT (optional)
  • BODY and FOOTER
  • LIST BUTTON TEXT (the button that opens the list)
  • TIMEOUT UNIT and VALUE (5 minutes to 2 days)

For each section, set a SECTION TITLE, ROW COUNT, ROW TITLE, and optional ROW DESCRIPTION. Each row gets its own workflow branch, plus branches for Not Delivered and Timeout.

Configure Visit Website Buttons

Set INTERACTIVE MESSAGE TYPE = Visit Website Button and fill in:

  • HEADER TYPE and HEADER TEXT or MEDIA URL
  • BODY (max 1024 characters)
  • FOOTER (max 60 characters)
  • URL
  • BUTTON TEXT (max 20 characters)
  • TIMEOUT UNIT and VALUE

You can personalize URLs with CRM variables. Example:

https://www.google.com/?name={{contact.name}}&calendar={{custom_values.agent_calendar}}

Workflow Branching

Branch workflow logic on what the customer does:

  • Link Opened — the link was successfully opened.
  • Not Delivered — the message failed to deliver.
  • Timeout — the message expired without interaction.

Best Practices

  • Use trusted or branded URLs for higher click-through.
  • Use CRM variables to pre-fill forms and assign calendars.
  • Always pair with the Customer Service Window Check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do interactive WhatsApp messages cost extra?
No. As long as the 24-hour Customer Service Window is open, interactive messages are free. Meta does not charge for service conversations.
What happens if I send outside the 24-hour window?
If the window is closed, you must send a Marketing or Utility Template message first to reopen the conversation.
How many buttons can a Quick Reply message have?
Up to 3 reply buttons. Each must have unique text with a 20-character limit.
Can I send multiple contacts in one Contact Message?
No. Each Contact Message supports one contact card. Use separate actions for additional cards.
What are the timeout rules?
Minimum 5 minutes, maximum 2 days. After timeout, the interactive element becomes inactive and the Timeout branch fires for follow-up.
