Why Old WhatsApp Voice Notes Show as Blank in Conversations
WhatsApp voice notes older than 30 days appear blank in Sparkforge conversations because Meta's media retention policy deletes conversation media after that period. The text record stays; the audio file does not.
If a WhatsApp voice note in your Sparkforge conversation history shows up blank, it is almost certainly past Meta's 30-day media retention window. The conversation entry stays, but the audio file is no longer retrievable.
Why this happens
Meta does not store conversation media (voice notes, images, videos, documents) for more than 30 days. Once that window passes, the file is removed from Meta's servers and Sparkforge can no longer pull it. This is a platform-level policy from Meta, not a Sparkforge bug.
What you can do
- Save important voice notes within 30 days. Download or transcribe any voice note you may need long-term while it is still retrievable.
- Use SMS or call recordings for archive-critical messaging. SMS history and Sparkforge call recordings are stored independently of Meta's retention rules.
- Set a workflow reminder. If a conversation is high-value, automate a task to download the media within the retention window.
What's coming
A UI indicator is on the roadmap so the conversation view will clearly mark voice notes that have aged out of Meta's retention window, instead of just showing a blank message.
