How to Use Custom Menu Links in Sparkforge SaaS Plans

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Custom Menu Links embed 3rd-party tools as iframes inside Sparkforge. Attach them to a SaaS plan and every new sub-account on that plan inherits the links automatically — no per-account setup.

Custom Menu Links let you embed any 3rd-party tool — AI assistants, inventory systems, custom dashboards — inside Sparkforge as an iframe. Bind a CML to a SaaS plan and every new sub-account on that plan gets the link installed automatically when it provisions.

What Custom Menu Links solve

SaaS agencies bundle extra tools alongside the core platform. Without CMLs, every new client needs the tools wired up by hand. With CMLs attached to a plan, the integrations show up natively in the sidebar at signup, no configuration required.

Benefits

  • Auto-deploy: CMLs attach during provisioning. Zero per-account setup.
  • Native feel: embedded tools appear inside the Sparkforge UI like first-party features.
  • Consistency: every sub-account on the plan gets the identical setup.
  • Easy updates: edit the plan and future sub-accounts get the new links.
  • Scalability: onboarding new clients doesn't get harder as the bundle grows.

Create a Custom Menu Link

Navigate to Agency Account → Settings → Custom Menu Links → Create New or Edit. Fill out the form. The URL field accepts merge fields, so you can pass user and location context to the embedded tool:

http://url.com/{{location.id}}?value={{custom_values.my_value}}

Pass user context to the embedded tool

Build the URL with merge fields and Sparkforge replaces them at click time:

https://test.com/test?fname={{user.first_name}}&lname={{user.last_name}}&location_id={{location.id}}&custom_value_example={{custom_values.example_field_name}}

The 3rd-party tool reads the params from its URL to identify the user and location.

Supported merge fields

  • user.first_name, user.last_name, user.name, user.phone, user.email
  • location.id, location.name, location.city, location.state, location.country
  • location.address, location.email, location.phone, location.postal_code, location.full_address
  • location.website, location.logo_url
  • location_owner.first_name, location_owner.last_name, location_owner.email
  • custom_values.{CUSTOM_VALUE_NAME}

Attach CMLs to a SaaS plan

  1. Open the configurator. In the agency dashboard, navigate to SaaS Configurations and select Create New Plan or open an existing plan.
  2. Open Custom Menu Links. Inside the plan configuration, find the Custom Menu Links section.
  3. Add the iframe URLs. Paste the URLs for your 3rd-party tools, name them, and order them as they should appear in the sidebar.
  4. Save. Save the plan. New sub-accounts that subscribe will receive the CMLs at provisioning.

Updates only flow forward

Plan changes apply to new sub-accounts only. If you add a CML to an existing plan, current subscribers won't pick it up automatically — push it manually if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do existing sub-accounts pick up new Custom Menu Links when I update a plan?
No. CML changes only apply to sub-accounts that subscribe after the change. Existing sub-accounts must be updated manually.
Can I edit or remove a CML once it's deployed?
Yes. Edit or remove CMLs at the plan level. Changes affect new sub-accounts on that plan.
What kinds of tools can I embed?
Anything that supports iframe embedding via a URL — AI tools, dashboards, inventory systems, internal apps.
Can I use Custom Menu Links outside of SaaS plans?
CMLs are designed for SaaS plans. For non-SaaS accounts, add CMLs manually at the agency or sub-account level.
How do I pass user context to the embedded tool?
Use merge fields in the URL — for example, {{user.email}} or {{location.id}}. Sparkforge substitutes the values at click time.
