How to Set Up Email Rebilling in Sparkforge SaaS Mode

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Email rebilling lets agencies automatically mark up and charge sub-accounts for email usage. Enable it on a SaaS sub-account, enter your base email cost, and set a markup multiplier to start charging clients.

Email rebilling adds a markup to the per-email cost your sub-accounts incur, then charges them through their saved payment method. Enable it once per sub-account in SaaS Mode and the system handles billing on every send.

What Email Rebilling Does

When rebilling is on, each email a sub-account sends is billed at your base cost multiplied by your chosen markup. The agency keeps the spread. Clients must have a payment card on file before rebilling can activate, and they cannot change their SMTP integration while rebilling is enabled.

Forwarded messages are billed per email at the same rate as standard outgoing sends.

Plan Availability

  • Agency Pro plans: full email rebilling with custom markup multiplier.
  • Agency Unlimited plans: rebilling works only with Sparkforge SMTP at a fixed 1.05x markup.

Enable Email Rebilling on a Sub-Account

  1. From agency view, open Sub-Accounts and find the sub-account.
  2. If it is not already in SaaS Mode, click the three-dot menu and choose Switch to SaaS.
  3. Click the sub-account name, or use the three-dot menu and choose Manage Client.
  4. Enter your base email cost in the Your email cost field. For the $35/month Mailgun plan with 50,000 emails, this is roughly $0.0007.
  5. Scroll to Email Resell Settings and use the slider to set your markup.
  6. Click Save.

How It Appears on Billing

  • Charges use the same per-email rate as standard sends, including forwarded messages.
  • Billing Source Type and Billing Trigger ID in the billing views identify each rebilled event.
  • Email and Twilio rebilling pull from the same sub-account wallet and combine into a single invoice.

Calculating Your Email Cost

Log into your SMTP provider and find your plan's included email volume. Divide the monthly cost by the included email count. Example: $35 / 50,000 = $0.0007 per email.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the Add Service button missing?

Sub-accounts cannot use their own SMTP while rebilling is enabled. Disable rebilling first to edit SMTP integration settings.

Can a sub-account damage my agency domain?

If you use your main domain for sending, yes. Use a generic sending domain so client behavior cannot harm your primary brand.

Will clients get separate invoices for email and Twilio?

No. Both pull from the same wallet and appear on a single invoice line.
