How to Use Custom Fields for Opportunities in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Custom fields let you track sales-process details that don't fit Sparkforge's default opportunity fields. Create text, dropdown, date, monetary, file, and signature fields, group them in folders, and use them in filters, reports, and automations.

Custom fields let you tailor opportunity records to your sales process. Add text, dropdowns, dates, monetary values, file uploads, and signature fields, then group them in folders and use them in filters, reports, and workflows.

What custom fields do

  • Capture data specific to your business: budget, preferences, product details, follow-up dates.
  • Group related fields into folders.
  • Hide empty fields to keep opportunity views clean.
  • Show up in dashboards, widgets, and reports.
  • Filter and sort opportunities by your criteria.
  • Drive workflows, campaigns, and merge fields.

Open the Custom Fields dashboard

Two paths reach the same dashboard:

Via Settings

From your sub-account, open Settings and scroll to Custom Fields.

Via an Opportunity

Inside Opportunities, open any record and click Add/Manage Fields.

Create a new custom field

  1. Click + Add Field at the top right.
  2. Pick a field type.
  3. Click Next.
  4. Set Object to Opportunity so it applies to opportunities (not contacts).
  5. Fill in details and click Save.

Other field settings

  • Name: the display label ("Client Budget").
  • Group: folder or category ("Budget Details").
  • Placeholder: hint text shown when empty ("Enter estimated value").
  • Additional preferences: field-specific options like default values or required toggle.

Tip: If you assign the field to Contact by mistake, it shows on contact records, not opportunities.

Create a folder

  1. Click Add Folder at the top right.
  2. Name it ("Budget Details", "Product Info").
  3. Set the object to Opportunity.
  4. Click Save.

Manage custom fields

Filter by object

Use the dropdown at the top right to filter custom fields by object type. Pick Opportunity to focus on pipeline-related fields.

Group by folder

The Group By dropdown organizes fields by folder. Useful when you have many fields and want to see them by context.

Bulk actions

Select fields with the checkboxes and use Bulk Actions to edit, delete, or move them into a folder.

Reorder fields

Drag the hamburger icon to change the order fields appear in when creating or editing an opportunity.

Filter the opportunities dashboard by custom fields

  1. In Opportunities, click Advanced Filters.
  2. Scroll to Opportunities Custom Fields.
  3. Apply filters using your custom fields.

Tip: Stack multiple custom field filters to build precise views — high-value leads that also meet a qualification threshold, for example.

Show custom fields on opportunity cards

  1. In Opportunities, click Manage Fields at the top right.
  2. Scroll to Add Fields.
  3. Expand Opportunity Details and check the custom fields you want on cards.
  4. Click Apply.

Hide empty fields

On any opportunity card, toggle Hide Empty Fields to show only fields with values. Keeps the card readable when you have many custom fields but only a few populated per opportunity.

Frequently asked questions

Do Manage Fields changes apply to all users?

No. Manage Fields changes are personal to your view. Other users in the same sub-account keep their own layouts.

What happens to data when I delete a custom field?

The field and all data stored in it are removed from every opportunity. The action can't be undone. To hide without losing data, use Hide Empty Fields or move the field into a folder instead.

Can every custom field type be used for filtering?

Most can: dropdowns, numbers, dates, text. File Upload and Signature fields show on records but aren't available in Advanced Filters.

Can opportunity custom fields drive workflows?

Yes. Use them as triggers, conditions, or actions. Common patterns:

  • Auto-update a field based on lead activity.
  • Pull custom field data into merge fields for personalized messages.
  • Move opportunities to a new stage when a custom field hits a threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

What custom field types can I create on opportunities?
Single line, multi-line, text box list, number, phone, monetary, single and multi dropdown, radio, checkbox, date picker, file upload, and signature.
What happens if I delete a custom field with data in it?
The field and any data stored in it are permanently removed from every opportunity. The deletion can't be undone, so hide the field or move it to a folder instead if you might need the data later.
Can custom fields be used to filter the opportunity pipeline?
Yes for most types. Open Advanced Filters and scroll to Opportunities Custom Fields. File Upload and Signature fields are not filterable.
Will my custom field card layout affect other users?
No. Card layouts from Manage Fields are personal. Each user sets their own.
Can workflows act on opportunity custom fields?
Yes. Use them as triggers, conditions, or actions — update fields automatically, pull data into merge fields, or move opportunities between stages based on field values.
