How to Edit Opportunity Status in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Sparkforge opportunities use four fixed statuses: Open, Won, Lost, and Abandoned. Update them by opening the card, dragging it across the pipeline, or triggering a workflow action.

Opportunity status drives every report, automation, and pipeline view in Sparkforge. Set the right status as deals progress so dashboards and triggers stay accurate.

The four opportunity statuses

  • Open — Active deal still in pursuit.
  • Won — Closed-won. Lead purchased or signed.
  • Lost — Closed-lost. Lead chose another path or competitor.
  • Abandoned — No activity, no follow-up planned. Removed from active consideration.

Status names and types are fixed. You cannot rename them or add custom statuses — only the four above are available.

Option 1: Update from the opportunity card

  1. Go to Automation from the sidebar.
  2. Find the opportunity in the pipeline view.
  3. Click the card to open its detail panel.
  4. Click the status field, pick Open, Won, Lost, or Abandoned, and confirm.

Option 2: Drag and drop

  1. Open the pipeline view in Automation.
  2. Grab the opportunity card.
  3. Drag it to the target status column. Status updates as soon as you drop.

Option 3: Update with a workflow

  1. Open Automation and create or edit a workflow.
  2. Set a trigger — form submit, tag added, appointment booked, payment received, or contract signed.
  3. Add the Create/Update Opportunity action.
  4. Pick the pipeline, stage, and status. You can also update name, source, and lead value here.
  5. Save the action and the workflow.
Workflow-driven status changes are the cleanest way to keep pipelines current at scale — no manual updates, no missed deals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add custom opportunity statuses?
No. Sparkforge enforces four fixed statuses: Open, Won, Lost, and Abandoned. You cannot rename them or add new ones, but you can model nuance with pipeline stages.
What is the difference between Lost and Abandoned?
Lost means the lead actively decided not to buy. Abandoned means the deal went cold without a clear decision. Use Lost for closed-lost reporting and Abandoned for stale records you no longer pursue.
Can a workflow change opportunity status automatically?
Yes. The Create/Update Opportunity action can change status based on any workflow trigger — form submission, payment, contract signature, or tag changes.
Does dragging a card update status everywhere?
Yes. The drag-and-drop change writes to the contact record immediately and triggers any workflows watching for that status change.
