Decouple Contact and Opportunity Owners in Sparkforge

By Sparkforge Support Team ·Last reviewed May 3, 2026

Toggle 'Allow different owners for contacts and its opportunities' in your sub-account settings to split ownership. Optional follower-sync settings keep contact and deal owners looped in on each other's activity.

Sparkforge can assign separate owners to a contact and to the opportunities tied to that contact. This is useful when lead nurturing and sales conversion live with different team members.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Settings in your sub-account.
  2. Scroll to Allow different owners for contacts and its opportunities.
  3. Toggle it On.

Once enabled, contacts and their opportunities can be owned and managed by different users.

How ownership behaves

  • Default opportunity owner. New opportunities inherit the contact's owner. Override the owner on the opportunity any time.
  • Workflow action. A workflow action that updates opportunity owner from automation is on the roadmap.

Optional follower sync

Two sub-settings control how follower lists stay in sync after an owner change:

  • Sync contact follower with opportunity owner. When the opportunity owner changes, the new owner is added as a follower on the related contact.
  • Sync opportunity follower with contact owner. When the contact owner changes, the new contact owner is added as a follower on the opportunity.

When to use it

  • Customization. Match ownership to how your team actually works — for example, one team owns the contact relationship while another owns the deal.
  • Collaboration. Auto-syncing followers keeps both sides looped in without manual updates.
  • Control. Reflects realistic CRM structures for handoffs between departments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does 'decouple owners' actually do?
It lets contacts and their opportunities have different owners instead of forcing them to share one owner.
Will turning this on change my existing data?
No. Existing contacts and opportunities keep their current owners. The new behavior applies to records you create or change after enabling.
Do I have to turn on the follower-sync sub-settings?
No. They're optional. Turn them on if you want the system to keep contact and opportunity followers in sync automatically.
Who should use this?
Teams that split lead nurturing and deal conversion between different people — common in agencies, real estate, and B2B sales orgs.
