How to Upgrade a SaaS Plan for a Location in Sparkforge
Pro-plan agencies running SaaS Mode can let sub-account admins self-upgrade in Company Billing, or change plans manually by editing the Stripe customer's subscription. Downgrades from the client side can be disabled.
SaaS Mode billing runs through Stripe. Plan changes happen in one of three places: the SaaS Configurator (agency-wide settings), Manage Client (per-location overrides), or directly inside Stripe (manual plan changes from your side).
Why It Matters
- Revenue: self-serve upgrades let clients move up the moment they hit a limit.
- Billing accuracy: Stripe proration credits or charges the correct amount on plan change.
- Feature control: the new plan's permissions apply as soon as the change takes effect.
- Churn reduction: downgrade reasons and save offers retain at-risk customers.
- Operational clarity: matching Category/Level and Stripe products prevents missing plan options.

- Click the Advanced Settings tab.
- Enable Allow sub-account admins to upgrade their subscription.
- Optionally enable Add New Plans Features and Apps Upon Upgrading so feature access lights up immediately.

How a Client Self-Upgrades
- Client logs into the sub-account.

- Clicks Confirm & Pay. Stripe charges them, the new features unlock.
Change a Plan Manually From the Agency Side
You change the plan in Stripe, then update the feature set in Sparkforge.
Find the Stripe Customer
The cleanest path is via an invoice (faster than searching by email):
- Open Sub-Account > Settings > Company Billing.
- Click View on any invoice in Billing History and copy the invoice number.
- Search the invoice number in Stripe and open the invoice.
- Click the customer email in the Billed to column to land on the customer profile.
Update the Subscription
- On the customer profile, click the pencil icon to edit the subscription.
- Remove the current price and add the new plan's price.
- Decide whether to prorate. Save.
Update Features in Sparkforge
- In your agency account, go to Accounts and click View Details for the location.
- Update the accessible features for the new plan.
- Save.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can clients upgrade and get the new features instantly?
Yes, if you enable Add New Plans Features and Apps Upon Upgrading in either the SaaS Configurator or per-client Manage Client settings.
Why does a destination plan not show for my client?
Check Category/Level alignment between source and target plans, currency match, self-serve permissions, and whether the Stripe price has been imported into Sparkforge.
Can I block clients from downgrading themselves?
Yes. Disable self-downgrades in the SaaS Configurator and route plan changes through agency support.
I changed prices in Stripe but the new price is missing from Sparkforge.
Import the updated price into Sparkforge and confirm the correct currency and price ID are mapped to the plan.
What happens if a payment fails after a plan change?
The account auto-pauses. Update the payment method, retry the charge in Stripe, and resume the account.
